Striker joins Bradford on loan
mansfieldtown.net, Wednesday 27th January 2021

Mansfield Town striker Andy Cook has joined Bradford City on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has been limited to only a handful of appearances in the last few weeks.

“It’s a great opportunity for Andy to go and play some games,” said Stags’ boss Nigel Clough.

“Like many players, he’s been a little frustrated not getting too many starts.

“The loan move is really down to the fact that the front players are playing so well, especially Jamie Reid in the central position.”

Cook will not be eligible to play for Bradford against his parent club when Mansfield travel to the Utilita Energy Stadium in March.

Nigel Clough discussed striker Andy Cook’s recent loan move to Bradford City, adding: “Andy [Cook] wanted to have a go at starting, and really it was a case of Jordan Bowery, Jamie Reid and Harry Charsley having played so well.

“It was going to be difficult for people to come in and start. Cooky wanted to play some football and we can perfectly understand that.

“Cooky has done well for us since the time that we’ve come in, and he has an opportunity there [Bradford] and we wish him all the best.”

CITY COMPLETE COOK LOAN CAPTURE
bradfordcityfc.co.uk, Wednesday 27th January 2021

Bradford City is delighted to announce the signing of striker Andy Cook - on loan from Mansfield Town.

The experienced frontman has arrived at the Utilita Energy Stadium on a deal until the end of the 2020/21 season.

A Carlisle United academy graduate, Cook has bagged over 160 career goals for the likes of Walsall, Tranmere Rovers, Grimsby Town and Barrow.

The 30-year-old netted against the Bantams earlier this season, as City recorded a 3-1 victory at the One Call Stadium in October.

Cook said: “I am over the moon to be here. As soon as I heard there was interest from Bradford City, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

“It is not every day you get a call from a club like this one so, for me, it was impossible to turn down.

“We are on a good run of form at the moment so I want to come in, play games and score goals - to help us keep climbing the table.”

City’s joint-interim managers, Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars, said: “Andy is another player we have had eyes on for a while, and another acquisition we are very pleased with.

“He adds more experience to our forward line, and carries a real presence and goal-scoring threat as our newest recruit in attack.

“His record across the EFL is an impressive one, and he is sure to bring even more healthy competition to our side.

“We are looking forward to getting him out on the grass for us and seeing what he can do in a Bradford City shirt.”

Cook will wear No.29 in claret and amber and is now available to sponsor - by e-mailing commercial@bradfordcityfc.co.uk. His signing is subject to the relevant EFL and FA clearances.

Andy Cook is Bradford City's seventh January transfer window signing with a brief to provide competition
yorkshirepost.co.uk, By Stuart Rayner, Wednesday 27th January 2021

The 30-year-old joins on loan from Mansfield Town until the end of the season.

Danny Rowe joined from Oldham Athletic last week, and scored at Southend United at the weekend. Clayton Donladson has started just once under unbeaten interim managers Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars, and although Lee Novak was missing through injury at Roots Hall, City are optimistic it will not be a long-term problem.

"Andy is another player we have had eyes on for a while, and another acquisition we are very pleased with,” said the interim managers in a statement.

Cook started his career at Carlisle United, and has also played for Walsall, Tranmere Rovers, Grimsby Town and Barrow. He scored in Mansfield's 3-1 defeat to Bradford in October but the team's fortunes have been transformed since the change of manager in December.

“As soon as I heard there was interest from Bradford City, I knew exactly what I wanted to do,” said Cook.

“It is not every day you get a call from a club like this one so, for me, it was impossible to turn down.

“We are on a good run of form at the moment so I want to come in, play games and score goals - to help us keep climbing the table.”

Andy Cook feared Stuart McCall’s exit had ended his chances of Bradford City deal
yorkshirepost.co.uk, By Leon Wobschall

The former City chief had made contact with representatives of the Mansfield Town striker towards the tail end of last year, but the interest went quiet after the Scot’s departure in December.

Thankfully for Cook’s sake, City got back in touch with his agent earlier this month and when told that a loan move had finally been agreed, he could not head to West Yorkshire fast enough.

The much-travelled forward said: “From what I got told, the inquiry first came from when the old ‘gaffer’ was here, so obviously that was leading up to January.

“There was a change of manager and it went quiet a bit and I thought it was dead in the water, to be honest.

“Then I got a phone call on Monday to say that the loan is agreed and to be fair, I was buzzing and just wanted to get up and sign.”

Cook’s arrival will provide another forward option for City following the news that top-scorer Lee Novak will be sidelined for four to six weeks with a knee injury.

Cook, 30, has joined on loan for the rest of the season and is hoping to secure something on a longer-term basis with his contract at Mansfield expiring in the summer.

The north-easterner netted a consolation goal for the Stags in their 3-1 home reverse to City on October 17 and also scored in his parent club’s 3-0 victory over the visitors in their League One game at Field Mill last January.

The former Tranmere and Walsall striker, who was also prolific in National League circles with Barrow - who City host on Saturday - added: “It is not just the size of the club, but the run of form they are on. It was a ‘no brainer’ to sign.

“I am out of contract at the end of the year and I have come here to do well for the team and if I make the right impression, you never know. Bradford might offer me a deal.

“I would have been stupid to turn a move down. I think there were a couple of other teams who were interested. But for me, there was one outcome.”

On a potential debut against Barrow, he continued: “Obviously, it is one of my old clubs.

“But I could not care who you put in front of me, as long as Bradford win.”

I’m told City fought off competition from top end L2 clubs & a SPL side in acquiring the services of Cook. Has been on their radar since December.
Further experience in attacking options can only be a good thing. Strength in depth will be key over next few weeks. #bcafc
