Mansfield made two changes from the side that came from 2 goals down at Histon to win 3-2. Silk replaced injured Spence, and Niall O’Rafferty replaced Danny Mitchley for his home debut.

Kidderminster started the better having all of the early chances and forcing saves from David Grof. Kidderminster’s best chance so far came inside the first 10 minutes when Matt Blair had a goal bound header saved again by David Grof. Grof was called into action once more saving from ex Stag Tom Shaw’s effort from inside the box.

Kidderminster pressure finally paid off on 15 minutes when Chris McPhee squeezed in behind the defence and poked the ball past Grof to put Kidderminster into a deserved lead. After the kick off we mounted our first attack on goal, which Stonehouse had a right footed effort from 25 yards out saved by Kidderminster goalkeeper Danny Lewis. A few minutes later and an Adam Smith corner was met by the head of young Tom Naylor but the ball was headed over the bar. Half time came and again we had it all to do in the second half.

Half time 0-1

Stags started brighter in the second with Louis Briscoe having a chance go just wide in the opening minute of the half, then minutes later a delightful ball over the top by skipper Adam Murray found Paul Connor who placed his shot just wide of the post. On the hour mark Kidderminster missed a wonderful chance to extend the lead when Vaughan delivered a wonderful cross only to be headed wide from 5 yards out by Canham.

2 minutes later bought the controversial moment of the game, Stags debutant Niall O’Rafferty was caught with a bad challenge that everyone in the stadium could see was a foul but the referee Steve Martin allowed the play to go on and the inevitable happened. Nick Wright broke with the ball down the left and cut inside to spot ex Stag and Kidderminster skipper Keith Briggs in space on the edge of the box, and he hit a great strike that beat Grof in goal. 0-2 Kidderminster. Kidderminster had one more effort on goal, which bought another save by Grof before Duncan Russell decided to change things. Kyle Nix came on for O’Rafferty and Louis Briscoe moved alongside Paul Connor upfront. Moments later Louis Briscoe found space on the edge of the box but put his long range shot high over the bar. Then came the Stags best chance of the game, Kyle Nix was on the edge of the box and beat his man before striking a fantastic shot to the top corner but it was matched by a top class save from Kidderminster goalkeeper Danny Lewis.

Then 12 minutes from time the Stags set up a nervy finish to the game for the Kidderminster faithful when Briscoe went on a run into the box and found Adam Murray 10 yards out from goal and he placed his shot into the top corner of the goal.

There were no other chances for Mansfield and Kidderminster held out well against a poor Mansfield side. There is no doubt we deserved to lose the game today against an organised Kidderminster team who are now unbeaten in 12 games.
