Report by jakethestag at the New Manor Ground Well the Stags made 4 changes to the team that started the Wrexham game with Collett in for Pilkington, Silk in for Day, Thompson in for Istead and Parker in for Mitchley. The game started slowly with the first real chance not coming until 10 minutes in when Briscoe had a good chance but failed to test the keeper. A quarter of an hour in and Worksop had their first chance through ex Stag Danny Bacon but was an easy stop for keeper Neil Collett. Then straight up the other end Louis Briscoe tested the keeper and the shot rebounded to Adam Murray who was fouled and Mansfield were awarded a penalty after he was fouled inside the 18 yard box. The penalty was struck low under the keeper down to his right by Kiegan Parker. 0-1 Mansfield. The next real chance fell for Mansfield after 25 minutes when some good football ended with Paul Connor heading over the crossbar. 5 minutes later Worksop forced a corner and Tyrone Thompson cleared off the line at the near post to keep Mansfield in the lead. Connor then went off with what is thought to be an injury, Duffy on in his place. Then in stoppage time at the end of the first half Louis Briscoe got his goal with a powerful low shot past the keeper. Mansfield winning 2-0 at the break. The first real chance of the second half came 5 minutes in when the ball fell to Duffy in the box who had time to pick his spot and place a wonderful placed shot through all the bodies and into the far side of the net. Great finish. Medley was then bought on in place of Parker who had been booked with 30 minutes to go. Then on 65 minutes Adam Smith delivered a corner from the right and fell right in front of goal for Grand to slot home to make it 4-0 to Mansfield. Also nice to see us scoring from set pieces now. Then with 10 minutes to go Adam Smith cut inside the box and was fouled to earn Mansfield a second spot kick of the night. This led to a squabble between Duffy and Medley over who would take it and eventually Duffy placed the ball and didn’t look at all interested as he fired wide with a horrible penalty. A minute later Duffy had a shot from the edge of the area which just went wide of the post. With a few minutes to go Gary Mills was bought on for Tyrone Thompson for the final few minutes of the game. The drama was not yet over as in stoppage time Medley charged into the 18 yard box and was bought down; no doubt about it this time Medley was having it. He placed the shot low into the corner to the keepers left. Worksop 0-5 Mansfield. Very good performance by Mansfield tonight, and Worksop didn’t really trouble us all night. Afterall you can only beat what is put in front of you. Man of the match: Adam Smith. |

Collett: 6. Easy night for Collett.
Silk – 6. Again simple night, he made 1 or 2 good challenges and defended well. Cook 6. Didn’t have much to do but made a very good challenge in the first half to concede a corner. Grand 7. Defended well and contributed with a goal. Good performance Sandwith 6. Quiet night, one good cross for Connor header but his few set pieces were poor tonight. Briscoe 7. Ran at their defence, tested the keeper a few times and got a goal. Thompson 8. Good performance in midfield, made some good challenges aswell. Murray 6. Quiet night. Adam Smith 9. Played well, crossing was good, got into the box and got an assist for his performance. Parker 7. Played some good stuff in the first half, liked to get at their defence and scored a very nice penalty. Connor 6. Unlucky with header in the first half, went off before half time. |
