Season 06/07 Stagsnet Match Report
Coca-Cola League 2
Mansfield Town
2 - 1
Conlon 45+6, Brown 66
 Birchall 68
Attendance: 2446 (182 from Barnet)
Date: 28 April 2007

The Stags ensured that League 2 football will be played at Field Mill next season after a 2-1 home win over Barnet at Field Mill this afternoon. At times it was a struggle and the visitors had very much the better of the first half, but the key moment of the match came deep into first half stoppage time when Conlon headed towards goal at the back post, Harrison managed to block, but Conlon, laid on the ground at this point, managed to fire the ball into the empty net. The Stags were lifted by this goal and produced a better, if not good, second half display. Brown raced clear to make it 2-0 but after an almighty goal-mouth scramble, Barnet pulled one back almost straight away. Both sides had chances in the last 20 minutes, Harrison making one outstanding save from Sleath after the youngster half volleyed a Conlon pass towards goal.

Other results meant the Stags would have been safe anyway, but it was still good to end a desperately disappointing campaign with a win and prevent an unwanted record of a fifth straight home defeat. As the game ended, the Field Mill faithful let it known who they blame for another poor season, they are not wrong and the sooner Keith Haslam leaves the club forever, the sooner we can perhaps look forward to a brighter future.

Full report to appear here later this evening.
