Season 04/05 Stagsnet Match Report
Coca-Cola League 2
Macclesfield Town
3 - 1
 Mansfield Town
Parkin 6, Tipton 58, Morley 62
 Lloyd 54
Attendance: 2456 (438 from Mansfield)
Date: 23rd April 2005

A breezy but sunny afternoon at moss rd saw an unchanged Mansfield side taking on Play-off hopefulls Macclesfield.
A lively start by both sides saw Macc take an early lead, when the very erratic refferee gave Macc a dubious free kick in a dangerous posistion just outside the box, a hard and low shot taken by Parkin gave Macc an early lead, and although fighting for the play-offs this did not settle the home team, and mansfield seem to take the upper hand of possestion Rundle causing afew problems for Macc without Mansfield threatening the Macc goal, Brown blazing a close range effort over, Lloyd having a shot blocked for a corner and the nearest Mansfield came to an equalizer was when Coke ran from just inside his own half unchallenged the defence seemed wide open for him and an angled hard and low shot was only parried onto the post by the Macc keeper.
The second half started in simlar fashion to the 1st with early chances for both sides and 10minutes into the half Lloyd ran at the Macc defence once again unchallenged but could only hit a tame low shot towards the Macc keeper Wilson who somehow managed to dive over the ball to gift Mansfield a very soft equalizer, right in front of the large following of Mansfield fans.
This seemed to inspire Macc into life and within 5 mins Macc got there noses back infront when a cross from the left saw Tipton's glancing header into the top corner giving Jason White no chance.
Mansfield had half a chance to equalise when a cross from the right saw Mclaughlan just wide of the far post hit a volley back goalwards over the bar. The next piece of action in these few frantic minutes saw Macc have a corner and a header by Morley gave Macc a 2goal lead and virtually nocked all the stuffing out of Mansfield and the last 25 minutes were poor from a Mansfield point of view.
It was nice too see Neil MacKenzie play a full game and though starting out wide left and winnning headers too drifted in and out the game, though did play the last 15 mins in centre midfield.
Mansfield played some decent football at times but seemed to rely too much on the long ball up to Barker who was handled well by Macc's tall defenders.
