If his head is turned by Gillingham, then let him go.
I struggle to grasp why he would want to go there

Perfect get out of jail free card for him.

Leave before he fails here. Leaving to go a bigger team in higher division, therefore not a blot on his cv.

No feasible reason why he would leave us to go to Gillingham, unless

a) he thinks he hasn't got enough hear to get promoted (would be his fault)
b) or he is offered more money.

100% record so far of clubs targeting Evans to send a message to their fans that they are ambitious, but never likely to get him. Its easy PR - we're a League 2 club so why wouldn't a higher club be able to take him off us in theory? But have no intention of paying/investing what he would want - and it gives them a few more weeks space to bring in someone else.

I don't see why we'd do anything other than say: "stay or go."

If his head is turned by a club like Gillingham then he might as well pop off. The whole speculation getssomewhat tedious and I'd prefer our manager to say that he has an on going project here, unless a genuine bigger club offers him something that he couldn't ignore.

Thought there was a rather large release fee (no pun) for Evans anyway.

Can't see Gillingham paying that

'Yes, but it's a wonderful club, with wonderful supporters who are in a false position. I've had many good battles with Gillingham down the years and you know what they're about, you know what they're going to give you. Wonderful club. Wonderful passionate fans. Fantastic owner. When I was Leeds United manager Alex Ferguson said to me, look at Gillingham, and you don't win everything he has won without knowing a thing or two. At Rotherham I had a great time at Gillingham, it's a wonderful club with wonderful supporters. Fantastic owner. I'm flattered to be linked with such a wonderful club, with wonderful supporters.'

Steve's thoughts on the approach.

I severely doubt the club would let them near SE, but even so, surely it comes down to how much money Gillingham decide to throw around?

They'll need a damn sight more cash than what Jordan's stuffed down her vest-top over the years to stand any sort of chance. Their owner needs to spend more Talons than you'd find in the bowl of an old ex leper, certainly more than half a Dinari

Stevie.....is that you ?

To be fair I don't think Evans will be our manager next season even if we get promoted.

They also have a director of football which I don't imagine Evans would be keen on.
