Are we better or worse?

Postby thefamilyvontrapp » Sun Aug 26, 2018 9:54 am

As I see things at the moment we are a better footballing side than last season... I think because we bought so many new faces in last year we are expecting the same results that we wanted last year (but didn’t get)...
I’m trying NOT to get too excited about results as I know that better football equates to better football results...

I’m not expecting us to be going up as champions but I definitely see us being in that top 5 slot most of the season...!!!

So ask yourselves the question, are we better as a footballing side than last season or not??

I’m in the ‘Better’ camp!!

Discuss!!

All I can comment on is Tuesday. I thought we played a great brand of football. I think we didn’t penetrate as much as we could and certainly didn’t get into Area 51 enough but we look well drilled and trying to play the right way. It’s August for Cliff’s sake. We are unbeaten. Better.

I think we’ve played some good stuff in all of the matches so far, we’ve got flair players in Khan and Hamilton who need to be involved as much as possible if we are to be successful.

We’ll come good, just a case of taking chances when they arrive and killing teams off.

I think we're better but haven't gelled yet, it'll take till Jan/Feb before we have.

Can't really say a great deal, not seen them much, brilliant against a very under strength Accrington, but it seems pretty much like last season against everyone else....so no, not for me any better at all. I've never had a lot of faith in DF, but prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but those saying we might not gel until Jan  ?!!
He wouldn't be in the job then if that's the case. He's had time to make his mark, end of last season, full pre season, bought who he wants, and we are STILL serving up the dross at Macclesfield .

Macclesfield was not good particularly in the second half.
To say you’ve not seen much of them you do have a lot to say and assume you were at Macc given your dross comment

All will be well - we have some v good footballers. Aside from yesterday Conrad’s mistake and missed chances have cost us 4 points. Nothing to do with selection subs formation and tactics.

I think we are better off as a club and it was great to see Lewis make his League debut.

I’ve no doubt JR will have made his expectations clear and I’m happy to leave it with him

Onwards and upwards

Wow that's some statement. If we "gel" at the end of January, we have 16 games to save our season,
If the team needs 6 months to get to know each other, we are in deep pooh

Therefore I assume there was irony in your post

Better, but we need to get the results. If we`d won yesterday, I`d have thought we were where we need to be. Conrad`s mistake(s) has/have cost us 2/4 points. Need to kill teams off. Preston is different class, so badly missed. Mustn`t play so deep! Flitcroft needs to know his team/players.

It’s a mix for me, much better when we’re at it but I feel we’ve got more bad habits costing points

Season seems to be panning out like last year generally hard to beat however we rarely kill sides off.

I agree, the only way he can get to "know" them is by playing them. Pre-season is a good starting point but as we know it's not a "true" reflection because there's nothing to play for.

After yesterday, I have I would say very slightly better. Unfortunately, against Macclesfield, we just didn't perform. We Too many players thought it was an easy fixture, but we and we got caught well short of application. We A bad performance front of 1200 Stags fans.

It's August. It's far too early to judge. I suspect that we are a fair bit better, if not a little too short in numbers in advent of an injury crisis.

I think that has been an issue for several seasons. Not incisive enough and don't create enough chances - nor do we score enough from the chances we do create. It means we draw quite a few games that we should probably win. It is odd that this has continued under different managers.

Better football but at the moment not better results . Still unsure we have the 20 goal a season striker that promoted clubs need, or if we do have him, we create the clear cut chances . Also unsure we have the quality between the sticks .

We are a work in progress.

Will take another two transfer windows before the squad is sorted.

If you reduce it down and analyse the facts we are identical;

Can't finish our chances
Can't defend a 1.0 lead

However, all the bits in between seem to have got better. We can pass, move, and can look exciting.

Odd isn't it.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.
