These "undisclosed fees" are frustrating.

In the case of Angol we don't know how much he was signed for and how much we sold him for.

My GUESS is that we paid less than 150k for him, and hopefully got that back or if not 200)
k. Although did JR say he turned down two 300k bids for Rose and Angol?

we do know that Mansfield paid more than £150k for Angol, and it was a club record
see http://stagsnet.net/vintage/records/records01.html

we do know that we received bids of "£300k plus" but we don't know how that was split between the players, or even if was for each player. We do know that JOhn Radford said "both players are for me worth that (ie £300k) at least.”

A reminder this was exactly what John Radford said on 30 July: “The first thing to say is they’re both good players and we want them to stay at the club.
But the same as David says, there is some business involved and we are maybe a touch top-heavy. I certainly don't think we're two strikers top-heavy. But it's a process.
The window is short this season - and I know that Carolyn would kill me if I get rid of Danny Rose. We’ll have to see.
At the moment, the bids that have come in ... I'm not going to entertain."

Question: can you put any sort of figure on the bids?

“They are £300,000 plus on the bids. I'm not saying ... both players are for me worth that at least.”

We are still lumbered with all the transfer listed players (except Digby, who might have had the most to offer, in terms of squad cover). Meanwhile Anderson, Butcher, Diamond (did he even attempt to find another club?) and Atkinson (should have remained on the transfer list) are all still at the club and draining the wage bill, whilst not being in the first eleven.

The one player who wants to leave (Danny Rose), no-one is prepared to pay our asking price for. And we might now need to loan him out, and we are unlikely to find a better loanee.

And the one striker who actually could offer the team more this season, and didn't want to leave, and had the same strike rate as Danny Rose (Lee Angol) has been sold.

We are now very light up front.

Unless DF has a better loan player lined up than Danny Rose, we would be better to retain Rose, remind him who pays his wages, and get the best out of him. Because Davies & Walker can only do so much. And it would be unrealistic to expect that neither of them will lose form, or get injured at some point this season (let alone the fact that we will need to utilise a striker in the second half of every game this season, regardless of who starts the game). Our 'third striker' will be crucial to the success of this season.

Agreed.

Anybody who think we are not light up top must be on something, Davies/Walker/Graham is very light.

Now if you add Rose to the mix then we are light instead of very light, but even so most of these lot on here reckon he's rubbish now anyway

We have signed some genuine quality though this summer

You forget we brought Sweeney in and didn't lose any key players like Macca or Mal due to crazy offers.
That said, it is remarkable that we have not managed to pass on butcher or AAnderson to anyone. We need to get them out on loan this month.

Butcher has been involved in our only game so far this season and I think Flitcroft might actually be surprised at his ability, he was after all included in the match day squad at the expense of Will Atkinson who he removed from the list.

The only players that concern me are Mirfin and Diamond, to a lesser extent Anderson. Anderson has said via his Twitter in a roundabout way that he wants to play for this club and the system we play at the minute is ideal for a player like him! But Flitcroft isn't interested in him or doesn't rate him, which is a shame because I imagine he'd be very easy to shift if he had a lower wage demand.

Diamond is like the missing man, where is he? I've read that he is injured but I don't think anything official has been confirmed??

Angol to Shrewsbury is great business for all concerned really, he wasn't going to ever win the fans over here despite a degree of ability that was obvious, but his application was severely lacking. The Crawley game was inexcusable and I am pleased we have moved him on, certain players fit certain clubs, I've got no doubt he will be an asset to somebody but that isn't us.

As for Rose, I'd be disappointed if he left now. Despite him handing in a transfer request, if he is to stay here then it is in his best interest for him to give his whole towards our cause. If he spits the dummy out, it will only hinder his own progression and he Will have to prove himself elsewhere before he gets his move up the ladder.

Lee Angol might well do well at Shrewsbury. Look at their side last season and on paper it looks a very weak League 1 side that ought to struggle in League 2. However, they clearly overachieved by being a well drilled team.

I wouldn't write off Angol being a success there.

Yeah that's quite a melodramatic post.

I get the sense that VP and people of this persuasion get a semi on if the club fails, with the prospect of being able to say 'told you, i was right' because they posted some tosh on stagsnet.

17 July
Flitcroft:
“Zander has been to see a specialist about the back injury he had last season which has not healed.”
"He had an injection in it last season, but has still not recovered. “He has now been told he could need surgery on the injury. “That is one we are still assessing and looking at and we’ll make sure with a second opinion. But it’s bad news for Zand. “We left him behind when we went to Portugal so he could get his medical attention back over here. “If there is something out there that can be done we’ll look into that.”

This is off bbc sport..
“Once I knew this could happen, I was just hoping it would get over the line," Angol told the club website.

"It's a very good move. At my age, I need to be playing games, not letting seasons go by."

What level does he believe he can play ?? Because all I’ve seen is a spark here and there from the lad.. disappointed we couldn’t rid rose, clearly not going to benefit from a player who doesn’t want to be here

Yeah, but they overachieved under Paul Hurst, who was good at getting the best out of players. He's now gone to Ipswich.

VP - A lot of people on here cannot comprehend how people can view anything to do with the club from a fair position. You have to be bias in every situation or you are not a real fan.

Like a lot of players, Angol may need a sustained run in the team to establish himself, something he didn't get last season, why? that's anyone's guess except to say most of the players who Evans brought in didn't get a sustained run in the team while he was in charge.

Like I have said in other posts, the 'lazy' appearance he gives off can be excused to a large extent if he scores goals, there's no taking away his strike rate was the best of all our players last season. If Shrewsbury can find the right strike partner for him then they could well have a good striker. I think he could have done well under DF's stewardship but there's no doubt Davies and Walker are his first choice strikers.

Good luck to Lee and I hope he makes it work with his new employer.

Best of luck to lee In the future. I think Danny will stay now and ask to come off transfer list. This could be where he proves himself to us fans Danny, butcher and Anderson could be vital towards the back end of the season

Sorry to offend you VP. Perhaps my response was too brusque, but you made a number of unjustified and unquantifiable claims that are not based on facts. Its easy for anyone to make a vague sweeping statement. You your post was just a prophetic fallacy lacking crucial information, eg, about players we are 'lumbered with', wages, who we might get in on loan, said loanees quality compared to danny rose, the form of our current strikers, or how 'crucial our third striker will be'.

Im going to make a prediction; if we dont play well we might lose.

On this issue, we do have differing opinions, but probably not on all issues.

Not sure how anyone can think we had a bad transfer window? Got in better quality, got rid of some dross. As for actually getting a fee for Lee Angol? Stunning work, will be backing Shrewsbury to go down if that is their striker.

How has this window gone badly? We’ve signed a young centre back who has been highly rated at his previous club and so far based on pre season and the first game looks a rock at the back. At the age of 23 he looks like someone who will make us a lot of money in the future.

We’ve signed a midfield general, something we’ve missed for years and would have easily helped us to promotion last season, just look at his pass for the Khan goal!

We’ve signed an attacking midfielder who had a wonderful first half of the season last year and already has contributed two good goals this season.

We’ve basically replaced Spencer with Davies, no other words needed and replaced a lazy striker with someone who will probably score 20 goals this season (something none of our strikers achieved last season).

After this transfer window so far, I have trust that DF will bring in what’s required to cover the areas we need. Sorry if this doesn’t blend into the anti DF message others are wanting to post but for once I’m actually really looking forward to my 3 hour drive to Yeovil on Saturday to watch this squad play!

I agree - we have made some good signings this summer. When i said it 'went badly' - i was referring to the 'summary deadline day' (in that we didn't manage to clear out the players that the club wanted to - and that we might be a bit light up front, if Rose goes and anyone gets injured). I think DF is a good manager - and he is starting to win a lot of fans over. Long may it continue.

That’s a fair point then! I read it as the whole window had gone badly! Luckily we have the loan window still open and as the Matt Green deal showed all those years ago, a loan with a future fee agreed can work out rather well!

I agree with Thon, sorry I mean ArsenecWengers Coat.

DDR will be our super impact sub this year and a brilliant option for squad rotation when others lose form, injuries. I thought that catapulting him from similar to playing the full 90 every game - though great for his development- was a sharp step up and maybe a little bit too much pressure/reliance on the lad.

His energy and work rate is superb he's an ideal fella to be bringing on from 60 mins+ .

The transfer window didn't end today at 5.00 pm it finishes August 31st, something that was tried to be stopped.
I'm sure more transfers will be made that day than today
I don't know who ends up better off the player or the buyer or the seller.
I'm sure the agent gets a lot more money from the loan and then the sale at the end.
Rose loaned to ?????? With contract signed to buy on August 31st is my thought.

Seen some Shrews fans on Twitter quoting anything from 180-240 thousand which is a decent enough price for him.

Clubs pay agents?
Players pay agents?
% of transfer fees to agents?

Nice.
