Thought we also had a game at Shirebrook tonight.

The original post on facebook said Retford United were playing a mixture of Mansfield's U21s and trialists.

MTFC cancelled the Shirebrook game last night...….
shame really as there would have been 200+ fans up there as STFC are always well supported and abit of extra revenue for the footy vclub and Staff Social Club would have been nice.
Especially as MTFC have signed a few Shirebrook players over the years and a few ex MTFC have or still play for them too

There pitch isn’t playable due to the current weather.

Like playing on hay.

When were you at Shirebrook Comp, then,Belly? My first year at secondary school was at Shirebrook Grammar before it turned in to the Comp in 1965. I played a lot of footy for Shirebrook BRSA on the Staff but don’t ever remember playing school games on there.

Harsh :)
I don’t think they even existed then.

I went to Bottom Comp in 73 and left Upper School July 79.

Turned up at Shirebrook at just after seven but no game on so hot footed over to Retford and just got there for kick off at quarter eight.

Very evenly matched game with both sides not taking any prisoners. Jamie Maguire was leading the young Stags from the dug out. The stags were definitely up for the game and actually played some very nice football using the 3-5-2 system.
