Steady move for Hunt. Did a job in certain games last year but never had a look in after Dembele tore him to pieces at Grimsby.

Wonder if the Scott Golborne rumour will resurface now.

Doubtful given how clear Flitcroft makes it that Benning is number one.

Looks like he’s using a youth understudy for benning, which is great news IMO.

I do hope we don't now have to a thread about all the ex stags at Stevenage. They've gone, and they weren't legends/greats or anything other than bang average so I frankly don't care.

Musings makes a good point that he does seem to rate Benning highly. Do expect us to sign another Left back now though

For me, Hunt is a Conference first teamer and a League 2 understudy. He got a move into the league but is on his way back to non-league eventually, if he can make a bit of extra money before he does that then good luck to him.

Guessing Diamond could be the next to go, given the other four were all training yesterday. Unless he's injured again!

It was interesting on the Wrexham forum that many Wrexham fans prefer James Jennings at left back to Johnny Hunt although some Wrexham fans point out that Johnny Hunt bagged 11 goals for them in 2013-2014 but he may have been playing in midfield.

Lets hope he is next. Floppy has confirmed young Wilder is now back up for Mal Benning so cant see another left back coming in. Great idea use the kids as back up bring them on as subs if were a couple of goals up blood them in for ten minutes so there more ready to cover injuries

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Diamond head off back to Scotland vaguely remember some comment from Evans saying we fought off competition from a number of Scottish clubs and the Northampton forum were under the impression he was leaving to go back north of the border . Should imagine he’s one of the top earners at the club on that basis alone .

Flitcroft said Hunt was stopping the progression of Wilder up to first team squad.

I liked Hunt - thought he did a good job. It’s v encouraging that DF feels he can let someone go citing emerging talent eg Wilder

Hunt never let us down. He's a limited, though reliable defender. Some distance behind Sir Malvind though.

Good luck to him.

Say what you will about Flitcroft and then end of last season. The fact he named a youth teamer in this way tells me he's actually willing to give youth a chance. How many times has managers said "youth this and youth that" only to not bring any through? Its not just a soundbite. That could still be the case but I doubt it if he's actually identifying youth teamers.

So it appears this was a "mutual" transfer list. Flitcroft didn't want him as back up and preferred youth. Hunt wanted regular first team football. Win win.

Hunt was/is a good steady player, I’d expect us to have an equivalent in the youth squad given our performance the last 3 years as well as a top left back for this level in Benning.

I don't think we will. Henri Wilder in the youth/reserve team is a fantastic left back and I would be more than happy to see him play there. I've seen him quite a few times although Marco van Sherpa, Kernow & Steve Hymas would've seen him more, so would appreciate their thoughts too.

Yep think you could be right reading the quote from Flitcroft (wasn’t working when I posted). Not seen anything of the young lad, expect to see him get some minutes in some of the home friendlies in that case!
