The Armed service men and women lay their life down for our country, and this thread is fast descending into puerile banality, taking away from the great gesture of MTFC.

Nonsense, no one is criticising the armed forces in any way whatsoever.

Edders dangled a maggot in front of Bellers and predictably (more predictably than the next high tide) he fell for it hook line and sinker.

In fact he not only fell for it, he went full belmer

Interesting to read his views (you have to be in the club it to criticise it) and will look forward to reminding him of that when he (predictably) criticises any profession.

In short, he’s made himself look a bit daft ;)

Of course history shows us that without the British army, the French would now be speaking German. But without the RAF, WE would be speaking German ;)

And, for my part, I apologise if my narrative “style” in any way suggested that the gesture from MTFC was inappropriate.

Log on to tickets for troops, make a donation, tell em which game, take your id on the day you pick em up. Last season it was just for QLE

It is for QLE this season too. I believe every home game has been on TFT this season, as they are for many clubs in the lower leagues - Prem tickets are usually ballots. I'm going to see John Bishop tomorrow in Notts courtesy of TFT and went to the Arsenal v Man City league cup final. It's a great scheme.

I’m not sure it applies to the RAF. It’s military only.

Ouch

TFT is excellent and a real benefit for serving and ex-serving members and of course their families, who often give up so much in support of their partners career. Having been in the RAF for 30 years now, we certainly don't get the same treatment as the forces do in the US, but then again, I have rarely heard anyone asking for that anyway.

My stepdad was on the Lancasters at the end of the war and he always said that he fought for the rights of folk to be able to do and say as they please (something that some ex-servicemen on here don't like folk doing). Up the Stags

You really are a trolling horse’s anal emission.

It’s OK for serving and ex to extract the urine, but a raving never served civvy no mark should keep their disrespectful mouth shut. You repellant civilian gland.

Isn't that reply the very antithesis of what the armed forces is about? Smacks of someone who does it so that they can say they're better than others, rather than provide the cover for people to say and do as they wish. What's the point in contributing to providing freedom for all if the end result is that people can only talk about what you say they can talk about? That's not much of a freedom.

I'm happy that the club offer this, as I would be for anyone who serves the public. I'm not or never have been armed forces, nor served the public, so I hope that you'll allow me to say that.

What regiment did you serve in, lads?

I applied for Army when i left school. Went through the whole process & passed my exams but there were no spaces left in the REME so i took a pass. I didn't apply out of any sense of patriotic duty, i just wanted to learn a trade. What with pits not taking on anymore & the recession in full bloom local employment was pretty grim for us after leaving school.

You really are a trolling horse’s anal emission.

It’s OK for serving and ex to extract the urine, but a raving never served civvy no mark should keep their disrespectful mouth shut. You repellant civilian gland.

The Civvy part of this rant annoys slightly Whiffy lad. I haven’t ever served in the armed forces nor do I want to, but I take my hat off to anyone that does and keeps us all safe. In the States ex and serving members of the Armed Services are treated like royalty which I love too as each of you deserves it, but it doesn’t give you the right to use the word Civvy like you do. So he is a Civvy, so what, most of us are and you are now too I take it. He’s wrong end of!!!

I’ll clarify. He’s the civvy gland because he doesn’t show any respect. You clearly do and I thank you sincerely for that. Not all civvies are glands.

EdwinstoweStag wrote:I have absolute respect for anyone injured in the service of their country - from ANY occupation, and well-targeted and meaningful gestures will ALWAYS get my support. Personally, I have spent the last 15 years in the charity sector, serving the needs of disadvantaged individuals - INCLUDING EX-SERVICEMEN. I don’t need Whiffy’s perpetual khaki diatribe to provide me with any moral compass.

My post was intended to play Devil’s Advocate and most readers will have seen it as such.

I knew that the Hampshire “tommy” would react in the way he did. He is so predictable. He states that it is OK for military to criticise military but civvies have no such entitlement

Of course in Whiffy’s skewed perspective, it doesn’t work in the opposite direction and he exercises no constraint in imposing his own opinion on all and everyone who dares to post.

AND BTW, MY POST WAS NOT CRITICISING SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN.

Perhaps Whiffy, you could attempt a degree of intellectual plurality?

Perhaps you will think twice in future before comparing serving the country with bramble picking. I’d like to point out that the TFT doesn’t apply to me. I was lucky enough to complete my service uninjured. The whole thing is part of the Military Covenant.

And it isn’t criticism, and Rob knows that. It’s inter service rivalry and banter. It’s like brothers. They will give each other loads of grief but when an outsider starts on one of them, they stand together.
I’ll also point out that my first post in this thread was in support of this offer being extended to others in the Emergency Services.

Nothing to do with that, and everything to do with the fact that if you’ve not served, then you just aren’t aware.

Oh I get it

And I get you

I’ve worked alongside doz’s of ex military lads.

The vast vast majority are sound well grounded and would run through a brick wall for you, but a few appear to share the same characteristics as you.

Never wrong
Always “black catting”
Always confrontational
Single, spending their evenings getting banned from social media or surfing porn sites

I had 2 ex marines, 1 ex para and one Ex RTC? On my last watch (from what I gather he used to drive low loaders around Germany a lot squashing cars) anyway, guess which one was a pain in the arriss? Yep the lorry driver. He wanted to fight everyone, argue with everyone, what he hadn’t done wasn’t worth doing, he’d personally met every celeb going (twice). Never shut up about IRA, Thatcher, Corbyn, civvies, and he always tried to hide his lack of education by correcting people’s grammar and inserting long words into sentences that no one understood (even him)

To his credit he was good at trivial pursuit, and making up insults, but that was about it.

Being in the forces is something to be proud of (I’m immensely proud of my serving son) but i’ll be devastated if he turns out like you.
