It seemed very strange that Ricky Miller was not on the bench.

I think it's more strange that Penney wasn't. CJ was having a mare last night so he would've been a better option to come on.

We don't know what Penney can do yet. He did not particularly impress at Swindon when he came on as a sub.

Lee Angol or Ricky Miller could have got us a goal.

Alfie Potter apparently tweaked his hamstring in training so that was the reason he did not start.

You have to provide for folk to score.
Aguero would have struggled last night.
We were at home last night though you'd have thought we were the away team watching it as a neutral.

As it went, I thought that Miller would have been the perfect sub!

I don't see the fascination with Miller myself, yes he did it in non league, but his step up to football league with both Luton and Peterborough were disappointing, and in the few glimpses we have seen so far he has not done anymore to suggest he deserves the subs bench spot over Jimmy Spencer

Like everyone else, not seen much of Miller on the pitch. From the little I have seen, he looked overweight and a little lost, against Coventry I think it was?

Angol should be the first striker off the bench over Spencer or Miller. He has 6 league goals and has only made 11 starts, not a bad record.

Miller wouldn't have given their centre halves time to carefully line up a big boot to Rhead.
The Stags are for life, not just for cup finals. (or Liverpool).

It's all down to what they've done in training in the last ten days or so. Hayden & Joel obviously impressed to get the call into the squad. Angel made it to the bench so others have to drop out.

I'd much rather have Miller on the bench over Spencer - he's an attacking option who should have a goal in him and he hasn't had a chance to show it yet (Angol is also a better option).

Supposedly Spencer is there to hold it up but Rose and Hemmings are far better at this, particularly Hemmings who has great link up play. He must be gutted he keeps getting taken off for Spencer when we are in the lead and he hasn't scored. If we carry on attacking for 90 minutes instead of setting at 75 minutes I'm sure he'd get more chances.

It's interesting reading all the different views on the substitutions. I thought on Tuesday that we needed to get more of a grip on the game in midfield so I would have took off a forward, Danny Rose, and brought on another midfielder, Jacob Mellis. Danny was shattered and Kane Hemmings holds the ball up better than Danny or Jimmy Spencer.

You can also play CJ higher up the pitch and pump balls down the lines and into the corners for him to chase and try and force the keeper and the defenders to concede throw ins. You can then slow the game down from there.

I would rather Angol hit form and be a super sub, or Omari, as others have said, Spencer is a good defensive forward as the great game football manager would describe, he is good to come on and hold the ball up and can do the defensive duties as well.
Ricky Miller, from his league reputation, and the brief moments we have seen so far, reminds me of a white Anthony Robinson.

Just need to get Miller games....he could fire us to promotion, totally different player to our other strikers who all seem to struggle to get goals bar Rose...even he doesn’t look like scoring in some games.

I think he needs to start one, Saturday would be perfect, give him 60 mins...not sure if I’d drop hemmings or rose though

It just goes to show what a poor January transfer window Steve Evans had. We actually aren't any stronger than we were before January!
Evans had built a strong 22 over the summer, but only marginally improved the first eleven. We needed that quality striker & quality midfielder, and it didn't happen.

Regarding substitutions ...... Spencer is useless, and should not play again. Leave Hemmings on if you want to hold the ball up, or put Angol on if you want to score a goal. We haven't seen enough of Miller or Sterling-James to know what they might have to offer, but neither have done anything this season - so we aren't in a great position up front, yet again this season ........ This was always Steve Evans' big failing - I mentioned it at the beginning of the season, and unfortunately the issue still remains.

Not sure about either of them

Has Miller got additional issues...I don't know but rumours abound?

Angol coming on as sub is my preferred choice.
