Thanks Martin. From where I was (in line with the shot) it looked like McDonald's strike took a slight deflection which caused it to loop up and spin in. But I could be wrong - it's impossible to tell from the video angle.

Thanks as always Martin, for your report.

IMO, Hemmings was much better than a 7, despite the missed header.

His touch, awareness and link up play were outstanding. He was a 9 for me and my MotM.

I said the same thing from IGU near half way line. His shot was on target but the slight deflection spun it outwards and then put a lot of curve on the ball to bring it back inside the post.

I've studied it frame by frame from the main camera and pitchside video and I don't think it does take a deflection. However it is difficult to say for certain.

we thought Hemmings played well and would have given him 7.5, but marked him down slightly for the terrible header, perhaps a little harshly. We did not think he was worthy of a 9 or the MOTM

Foul on Akinde looked a clear pen to me, as did the one on Rose.

Not one of them played poorly today. Macca MOM but Hemmings and Benning were also very good. CJ impressed me today, showing a different side of his game. He didn't try and beat his full back on the outside all afternoon, but his passing was so effective it didn't matter.

My view, from P block (near enough in line with it) is there was no deflection. It appeared to be going wide then just started bending into the goal. A fantastic strike nonetheless.

Thankfully Channel 5 showed Macca’s goal so I could see that one. Stunning finish.

Macdonald’s shot for his goal didn’t take a deflection from my view in UIG, looking right behind it but it dipped viciously .

At first looked though it was going wide but at last minute it dipped and curled in - very strange.
Can we play Accrington Stanley every week.

He wouldn’t have been able to do that with the old leather ball.

Hemmings played well, borderline very well, and maybe we were slightly harsh to mark him down to 7. However in my opinion he did not make the same sort of contribution as MacDonald, who was outstanding.

Hemmings movement was top class! McDonald must have hit that ball with a lot of topspin. I thought it was going over.

report tweaked in a few places after going through the game again.

23 minutes of highlights when loaded on iFollow crammed with pitchside footage

Hemmings general play is outstanding, his only fault is not scoring that header yesterday.

I was in line with the MacDonald goal and I thought it was going wide but curved just inside the post.

I don't think it got a deflection.

I was sat on the Q block edge of R, just about in line with the 18 yard box line and never even considered that it had taken a deflection until I saw this thread as it was so apparent (from where I sat) that it hadn't. What I did see though was the arc of the shot and for 75% of the length of the shot I thought it was going over until it took a wicked late dip.

Looks a clean strike on the pitchside footage.

Yes, there's no video angle that gives me any chance of confirming one way or the other as none of them gives a clear view. All I can say is that I was fairly close and was exactly in line with McDonald's shot. It looked like it just caught a defender's heel a little and this gave it some spin and looped it up slightly. It looks quite different on the footage which doesn't really show the weird curl from outside the right post to inside.
But it doesn't matter. It was a great strike anyway and a well-deserved goal.

The guys nearby spent most of the first half berating Hamilton for being "useless" and laughing when he made any small mistake. Later on they got a lecture from one of the more astute fans, and then they focussed more on criticising Logan (and Arsene Wenger).
