Spot kicks

Postby Amber Andy » Sun Nov 05, 2017 9:06 am

Whilst I was impressed how we navigated ourselves past a very tricky cup tie, for me the main concern was the penalty miss. Not the worst penalty we've taken this season, but nevertheless we didn't convert. Penalty misses cost points and often inspire the opposition to go on to win games. We must start to convert if we are to achieve our ambitions. Who should take the next one ? Despite SE saying after Danny Rose's missed penalty "he won't be taking another one", I would let him have another go. He is by far the best finisher we have and his confidence must be high.

The keeper guessed the right way and as Marty says in the report although it was firmly struck it was at a 'nice height' to save. Low in the same side or high in the same side and Stewart wouldn't have sniffed it imo. There was a slight 'tiff' before also between Jacob and Kane on who was going to take it which probably put him off slightly.

Judging by the fact they are all shocking at pens, simply implement whoever wins it takes it

And if there’s any doubt, let Goalie take it

That didn't work yesterday.

We need one main taker who we stick with even if they miss one. Deserves to be Rose imo.

Angol will probably take the next one when he is back fit and if in the team. He has 2 out of 2 so far.

True - then the SE haters and critics can continue their whine about Murray's old players saving us! :P

Didn't see too much wrong with Mellis's peno other than the height. Personally, if the game is comfortable, then I'd encourage others to try taking them, and see if we can't get 2 or 3 confident at scoring

The referee didn’t help with the delay before the kick was allowed to taken. He spent ages nagging the players around the edge of the box and the “D” - he was show-boating to the cameras liked he’d been doing throughout the game.

Nothing you can do when the keeper makes a very good save. If he went the other way you would all be saying how good the spot kick was.

Wouldn’t it be easier to tell the ref not to award us a spot kick, however blatant. Save a lot of trouble :?:

As been said before, I would give the keeper a shot at spot kicks. They’ve got the power and hopefully the direction.

I'm not having a go at SE signings. In fact he's made some good ones, Byrom and Diamond to name two. It's simply we are unable to convert spot kicks. The one saved yesterday was a decent effort, but the fact is we didn't convert it at a crucial time in the game. I hadn't realised Angol has scored two out of two, so if he is on the field at the time I think he should continue. If not, then Rose.

Considering how long we went without getting even the sniff of a spotkick, it's encouraging that we've had 6 this season even if we've missed 4

Conrad Logan. If the keeper manages to save it then it will take his arm off in a Black Knight style.

'Tis but a scratch.
