I doubt Byrom will be dropped...so would replace him with digby in the above.

White might come in for Bennett, agree Butcher and Mellis can't play in the same team if Byrom is on the pitch.

Not sure id start Rose either.

Hunt is the find of the season so far, performing far better than I expected.

Steady in defence. Offers little going forwards. Same on the other side. Bennett best centre half at club trys to get forward from full back. We are at our best with fullbacks overlapping. That means White and Benning playing even if they are prone to the odd mistake at the back.

The primary function of the defence is to defend.
The 'odd mistake' has cost goals and we aren't potent enough up front to counteract these 'odd mistakes'.

If Rhead is expected to start, I wouldn't be surprised if Diamond comes back in, or Bennett moves to centre half. As good as Pearce and Mirfin have been in the last two games, I wouldn't fancy them to cope with Rhead in the air. I don't think Mellis will play, I think the midfield will be the one that started the second half.

A fit Diamond will come in for sure, but who for? Maybe Pearce. I think SE prefers Mirfin and Diamond at CB. It's a good problem to have. Personally Pearce and Mirfin don't look bad together so I would stick.

Since SE changed the back 4 against Grimsby we've conceded one goal n that was a dubious penalty were a player slipped into the other

Glad it wasn't just me who saw him then, saw him outside the Vic at about half 12, was staggering all over the place. He's obviously not mastered the crutches

It was probably done in that foul (for which he should have been booked) just in front of the QLE. He limped away from that and had treatment shortly after.

White, Benning, Bennett & Hunt are defenders first and foremost. How many goal assists have they produced this season? ....... and how many goals have they been responsible for conceding?

Logan
White Bennett Pearce Benning
Anderson Mellis Digby McDonald
Rose Angol

Pace and attacking intent, Evans won't go with this for one minute, but this is what I would pick if King for a day :D

no chance mirfin will drop his place, bennett is more likely as he was poor last night. hunt didn't do anything wrong and should keep his place too.

don't think digby is the answer as evans seems to like mellis byrom and butcher

If Byrom is out Saturday which appears likely then let's hope his replacement comes to the fore, as in the past when he's been replaced we don't seem to 'tick over'.
I know he was poor the other night but that is a rarity.

Maybe Hunt showing his capabilities is a prelude to switching to 3 centre backs with wingbacks - which looks to be Hunt's best role. We'll need to be strong in midfield against Lincoln and I think we'll need 5 in there.

Lincoln are unbeaten at home, but have only once against Carlisle who are generally poor away from home. Luton and Morecambe have both got draws there.

We are going to be bombarded with balls into our box from restarts on Saturday so I would keep Johnny Hunt in the team instead of Mal Benning. Benning has been responsible for goals by Crewe and Luton where he was beaten in the air by Porter and Hylton. He was also clearly targeted by John Coleman at Accrington and Keith Curle at Carlisle where they put plenty of balls into the left back area at the far post. Coleman said after the Accrington game that they were confident that they could create an overload at the far post.

Steve Evans may also think about bringing back Paul Digby as he will give us a bit more height in midfield. He did a good job at Accrington but worryingly had a poor game against Lincoln in the Checkatrade Trophy. We may need the extra height to deal with the high balls aimed at Rhead, Raggett, Waterfall, Green, Bostwick, Palmer & Co.

I'd take a point now if you were to offer it, we're good enough to win it but given their home record very few will get one.

I expect Byrom to be out so would put Atkinson in there, im pretty sure Southend described him as their Kante which is what we will need!

I'd also be tempted to put Anderson in over Macdonald just to add height to the team but I'm sure Evans has already formulated a plan.
