David Mirfin

Hey guys..

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else or its just me but..

During the Luton game, my mate notice that David Mirfin doesn't like to challenge for headers, or like to jump for headers.. and I dismissed it and laughed at him but during the Grimsby game, thats all I could notice. He quite often let the ball bounce before clearing it or if the striker going for the ball in the air, he tried to put them off rather then going for the ball himself..

Has anyone notice it? it weird having a CB who hasnt got confidence for a simple header

Ive noticed it. Surprising for a big guy how many headers he loses. That said, he was much improved on Saturday.

Yes he doesn't look great in the air, looks like he can't straighten his legs either, wonder if he has knee troubles in the past?

Played well on Saturday but no real threat from Grimsby, he still worries be a bit.

glad others had notice it too..

Im not saying hes a bad defender.. had a cracking game against Grimsby so good signs of improvement.. just a big tall team might cause issues with him at CB..

He was my MOTM vs Grimsby. Don't think he lost a header all day?

He doesnt win all the headers but I think he's a clever old pro. If he knows he wont win them then he makes the striker uncomfortable or drops off to mop up the loose ball.

Think he'll be a key player this year

I've seen him twice. Class on both occasions.

He certainly put his head in Harm's Way on Saturday. I don't recognise the original comment at all

He won nothing and was our worst player at Crewe, but made up for it by scoring.

He's gradually improved bit by bit but he still does worry me in the air I must admit.

I thought he was out of touch early in the season but against Grmsby he was a giant.

Given his performance on Saturday I've given him the benefit of the doubt and hope he's beginning to settle, if he continues to play like Saturday he'll live up to his reputation. Hope he does.

Mirf will be tested big time in the next two games. If he's part of the team that wrestles at least 4 points from those games he'll be a nail on for a run of games.

Both Wycombe and the Imps have big units to unsettle defences and Mirf should relish this challenge.

He was our best player against Luton, and was good on Saturday too.

Mirfin has been a pro for nearly 15 years, i'm going to guess he's worked out what hes good at, and what he isn't.

Mirfin a slight enigma in that when he came here we thought that he would be one of the very very top players and a real catch for us.
Think he had slow start and some questions being asked but improving all the time and should be good for us overall and solid pro in my view but maybe heading to his latter years now.

All players have strengths and weaknesses, don't think anyone is saying Mirfin is a bad player, just assessing his qualities.

Hate replies like this. Nobody is a boo boy. People are just assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the players we have. It's a forum to discuss all things Mansfield.

MTFCMusings, it's an off-target attempt at irony. Ignore.

No, I mean since the first game. Read through the aftermath of the Crewe game.
