You're half right. Firstly I don't know where to find Starbucks in the town centre?

Or Superdry, Jack Wills, H&M, Lush, Five Guys, Yo Sushi... I could go on, but it's frankly embarrassing what Mansfield doesn't have.

We do have a great pile of rubble next to the new bus station though. And another where Metal Box used to be. And the old Brewery...

Until we receive proper regeneration I will continue to be very critical of our council.

Embarrassing because there's no Starbucks? Seriously? Wouldn't it be great if all towns looked the same & had the same shops... How about trying Ten Green Bottles or one of the many local coffee shops or cafes where the product is just as good & you're supporting a local business rather than a massive company that couldn't give a toss. I wouldn't go into Starbucks if they paid me.

You'll be wanting our kit made by Nike next.

I would happily have our kit made by Nike if it meant having an embroided badge again.

I'm not going to join in the local political ping pong.

But.

The positivity surrounding and emanating from the One Call is palpable. The most promising era for Mansfield Town FC for many a long year and this must ultimately have a positive affect on the town and surrounds.

And the good feeling and anticipation felt by this old bugger is so welcome after many years of misery.

Regeneration is about placemaking and making a place where people want to live and work. The physical regeneration usially goes in line with economic regeneration. Public realm improvements and providing a place where bisiness wants to locate. What regeneration must also do is provide an uplift in land and property values that goes above and beyond market inflation which essentially pays for the investment at the end of the scheme. If the margin at the end cost/profit plan isnt 20% the regeneration wont come forward. This will be the hardest thing to achieve in Mansfield.

A hotel wont be the flagship entreprise to deal with Mansfields problems but it is a minor step in the right direction.

On a side note Mansfield should apply to be a Garden community and set up a Prop-co profit share with a private sector partner who knows what theyre doing to get the funds for regen that way.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

The council do have a very good regeneration team, I know some of them.

Regenerated, Brownlow Rs
General Hospital site.
Woodhouse railway station area
Queens Head building near bus station.
New bus station.

There is a great deal more to come, who the hell do you think has been helping the football club, yes council regeneration team

Jobs for Mansfield if the deal goes through.

Mansfield District Counil does NOT have a dedicated regeneration team. Nor does any 'district' council. Only 'borough' councils and 'Unitary' councils have that benefit.

That isnt to say regen isnt attempted.

Wrong again.
The dedicated Regeneration team at MDC was joined up with the dedicated Economic Development team at ADC and is now a 'shared service' based at Mansfield Civic Centre.

Exactly. Shared service. Half the resources covering twice the area. Not dedicated.

How can i be 'wrong again' when i wasnt wrong either time?

Starbuck IMHO is the Devil's very own raspberry.

However Johan is right there is a real lack choice in Mansfield. It's great that there are indie businesses in town & more power to them but they aren't mutually exclusive.

The situation has seemed to me for donkey's years now is that if you have disposable income & live in the Mansfield conurbation you have little choice but dispose of it elsewhere.

Or the perfect setup to grow into, if / when they get some more momentum. How many times has our ground been full since redevelopment? 3/4 at most.

I'd take a setup like there's in a heartbeat.

If you want shops like that just jump on the robin hood line into Notts.

Mansfield e if the council got their act together and sorted the place out maybe you wouldn't be put off.

I tend to avoid the place in day times but more to do with the calibre of people down there.

Exactly. The stadium is used for much more than footy too. I went to see World Cup Rugby there as well as England Ladies. It's a wonderful set up and great stadium. Mk is a big place, if they get success they will start filling the ground.

So according to that article it's going to be attached to the QLE. I can't see how this can be achieved without a total renovation of that stand. Perhaps it's the ideal opportunity to fill in that massive draughty corner and upscale the offices/dressing rooms shop etc.

On a dark Mansfield highway, cool wind in my hair
A slow chant of Yellows, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
Glad i'm not a Spireite
Carolyn stood in the doorway
I heard the halftime bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be heaven or this could be Hull
But Stevie lit up the teamtalk to make us play like we should
We were cheering on the lads, and we were playing good
oh yeah
Welcome to the Hotel OneCall it's for ya
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Don't get out ya face
Plenty of room at the Hotel OneCall it's for ya
Any time of year (any time of year) we'll give the Stags a cheer.

When some of the most highly recognised high street brands take one look at your town and think “no thanks” – yes I would absolutely say that’s embarrassing. If you’re a working aged person with money to spend the message is clear – go to Nottingham or Meadowhall…

And just look what happens when someone like the Radford family try to invest in the town – didn’t Woburn Road suffer delays because we were moving too many rocks??? Would it really surprise anyone if our council (once again) conjured up some objection to this hotel idea? It’s exactly this small town mentality which is preventing any real investment.
