Mansfield certainly needs a major chain hotel, a Premier Inn or a Travelodge but unless it's their budget brands I can't see a Hilton working on the training pitch with glorious views over a retail park, the back of Victoria street and a scrapyard.
Whilst it would be good for the Sandy Pate bar's trade, it doesn't scream luxury that the Hilton brand offers.

I see parking being an issue too with little room as it stands for long term parking, also customers will have a problem trying to enter or leave the hotel on match days where there's always queuing cars in the car park and crowds of people to drive through. The whole entrance to the stadium on Quarry Lane will need sprucing up. Pull down the fence at the entrance to the car park.

The road on the retail park could perhaps be extended to the training pitch so access to the hotel can be from the retail park. This means Gabbitas would have to pull down his beloved gate.

The best place for a hotel in Mansfield is the old bus station site IMO.

A great idea, I've been saying for a long time that the town desperately needs a chain hotel, I just didn't expect it to be at Field Mill. I live out of the area and would certainly use the hotel when visiting friends and family. Also, there are plenty of decent sized businesses in and around the town, I'm sure they can generate much of the custom for a hotel…. and don't forget away fans who may prefer to stay over after a match.

Just shows you what a Tory can do for the town.

That has nothing to do with anything.

Mansfield District Council don't even have a regeneration team so this proposal probably won't mean any works involving CPO's or anything like that. Might just be an agreement in principle at the moment.

Whoever is responsible ot certainly is an excellent step forwards. There is a hotel and conference centre at bramall lane too. Its great.

Copthorne hotel, stayed a few times. Tis very nice.

End of the day, Hilton Hotels would've done their homework and not gone into this blind. They are a massive world renowned hotel chain and therefore must have made some good decisions in the past - this is another boost for the town.
People moan about the lack of investment in this town and when we get some positive news, people are quick to knock it.
If they put it at the Quarry Lane end, West Stand side or Bishop St, it will only improve the ground and income and also the town.
Well played to the Radfords for getting into bed with Hilton I say

The council do have a very good regeneration team, I know some of them.

Regenerated, Brownlow Rs
General Hospital site.
Woodhouse railway station area
Queens Head building near bus station.
New bus station.

There is a great deal more to come, who the hell do you think has been helping the football club, yes council regeneration team

Jobs for Mansfield if the deal goes through.

That’s some comedy gold right there. The old General Hospital site has stood derelict since the early 90’s, they started pulling down Brownlow Road at least 15 years ago, and don’t get me started on the new bus station…

There’s no wonder nothing gets built in this town.

Stags are having to fight through red tape to lay a couple of football pitches up Woburn Road. MDC should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Can only be good for the town and club.

But I guess by the low key announcement and details revealed it's an idea very much in its infancy.

It's also given supporters something else to talk about other than which marquee striker we might be signing

Do you believe that? I've worked there a lot over the years and its on its backside and has been shafted over the years, similarly to us; and is half the size of Mansfield. Please, nobody can talk up Corby.

Most small towns have at least one national chain hotel - hell, Chesterfield has about four.

Does anyone else work away? If so you'll realise that beds in hotels are always in demand and Mansfield doesn't even have sufficient B&B's never mind anything larger. The fact that MDC has never been able to attract a suitable hotelier is damning of just what a useless sample they are.

I'd like to think that this will be a big project: hopefully there'd be funds to do something like completely level the QLE and build something bigger, better and well equipped, whilst integrating around the hotel - the club day to day facilities could certainly do with being de-Haslamed. Perhaps fill in one of those gigantic gaps between the stands.

However, until the information is less vague ideas and expectations are purely guesswork.

I also work in Corby a hell of a lot & also spend a lot of time working away from home. I don't think I've ever had to overnight in any town of comparable size to Mansfield that didn't have a national chain hotel in it.

Corby is if anything, smaller than Mansfield, it's a craphole will comparable economic woes as Mansfield and yet even a dump like that has two Holiday Inns.

The fact is hotel chains do know of Mansfield, take premier inn for example.

Premier inn Mansfield is location only a short walk from the town centre, 7 miles away on Junction 28 of the M1!

For anyone interested it wont be the first hotel Hilton have built into a stadium as MK Dons have one already under the doubletree brand.

http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels ... index.html

Be very interesting to see the plans for it.

If it's a quarter as good as that one it will be an asset to the town and the stadium.

MK Dons ground.

The hotel is front and center. The building on the right is a small arena.

Mansfield District Counil does NOT have a dedicated regeneration team. Nor does any 'district' council. Only 'borough' councils and 'Unitary' councils have that benefit.

That isnt to say regen isnt attempted.

Did Carolyn and JR discuss this with Yorkshire Stag before releasing this to the press ? It's outrageous if they didn't.
