I'm always pessimistic about a player that's gone from Premier to Championship, to League 1, to League 2 by the time they're 26. Mellis is clearly talented but there's also clearly summat up.

Hopefully he realises that he's now one step away from being non-league and decides to make a final go at being a Football League player. Jury's out for me.

His wiki page says

In April 2012, Mellis was arrested after a fight with his girlfriend at his Cobham home. They were admitted to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey and treated for scratches and bruises and subsequently arrested on suspicion of ABH. He was cautioned for common assault and criminal damage

No wonder his agent is Jake Speight.

He has had a few issues in the past but regarding his playing ability, he's a very good signing . Easily , League one standard .

Sounds like he may be a loose cannon
Hope he does not see this move as a free ride
Have you noticed that he is the only signing NOT to hold up a Stags shirt or scarf

I wouldn't read into that. Maybe she scarf wasn't handy when they went for the shoot or the photographer decided on a different pose after all the signings this week. I'm sure Mellis wouldn't have thought "I don't want to hold hold up this scarf" he probably wasn't offered it.

I'm not sure, he's clearly not interested if he's not holding a scarf, it's an unwritten law a scarf or shirt...

Looking at his wikipedia, Speight could only be his agent.

Looking at the responses to the clubs breaking news tweet, apart from the usual morons, most seem to highly rate him.

Can't take the credit for this because I saw it on twitter, but surely we're going to sing 'a town called Mellis' this season

Seen him play a few times over the past few years and this kid can play, I'm sure SE and PR can sort his ego out and get the best out of him. Over the years he would of had that 'I've played for Chelsea, y'know' mentality but hopefully that's been knocked out of him

Not sure either about this one Hopefully SE knows what he is doing players who go missing and have attitude no good to us
Colin Daniel springs to mind although not too bad on attitude at least but he did drift a lot in and out of games

A mate of mine is a season ticket holder at Barnsley. He liked Digby said he's decent but reckoned Mellis is a bit of a prima-donna but should do well for us if he can be bothered.

For goodness sake, give the guy a chance. He deserves it, like all our new signings.
