marquee signing (striker)

Postby yorkshire stag » Thu May 18, 2017 6:17 pm

And so here we are, merrily signing away filling up our squad before most other clubs have sent out their retained list, i just cannot stop this little niggling feeling that we still haven't signed that marquee striker that we all desperately seek, don't get me wrong the signings are good for our level, it's just i keep waiting for that one BIG striker signing which for me would be the difference in Auto and play offs

From all the reviews I've read about Angol, the big picture I'm getting is that as a lone striker, he's ineffective.....everyone seems to be saying that in a pairing with a decent target man, he thrives.

So on that basis, you'd expect he is it, with Spencer and Rose capable of doing the donkey work for him whilst chipping in with the odd goal themselves.

Only way we may possibly go for another big signing would either be another striker in Angol's mould (but we couldn't play both together at the same time surely) or another big battering ram, who nobody would consider "Marquee" unless it was Akinde.....as most of them have poor scoring records.

"Lee Anthony Angol (born 4 August 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for League Two club Mansfield Town.". 22 years old then.
Sounds like a decent second striker but not the goalscorer we really need.

Disagree. He's scored goals wherever he's been. And has a good scoring rate for a player his age. Is he the main answer? Maybe but he is definitely going to be aiming to be one of our top scorers.

Based solely on my own opinion, I'm thinking Mr Evans is looking to alternate with four to five strikers with varying talents. I can't shake this feeling he's waiting for tonight's play off results to give him the chance to throw down his ace play!

I too am still hoping we are going to sign that 'top' striker. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased with the signing of Angol and think he is a great prospect and will get goals but if we land that known goalscorer it's a complete game changer

Cullen (Blackpool) - top class record
Hylton (Luton) - we know to our cost how effective he is, and now I get laughed at

That marriot at luton doesn't look a bad player, not a 20 a season player. I feel the last striker (or maybe 2) will be a big name.

The strike force of Rose, Spencer, Angol is looking promising at the moment

Watkins will go for £300-400k to the championship I believe, and if Exeter go up so will the price £££ .

But this time last year you'd have put Green ahead of all those , all about opinions .. I'm firmly in the camp we need a goal scorer a stanty , greenacre , Barker type ..

Yes Yorkie because marquee signings are not the be all and end all imo ...team spirit , togetherness and a good leadershp can get you where you want to be...as Blackpool are showing ATM
