3 wins needed

Postby Fitzy499 » Sat Apr 15, 2017 9:58 am

If we are to finish in the playoffs we would need at least 3 wins from the next 4 games.

I predict wins against Luton, Stevenage and Crawley. Hopefully a draw against pompey

I predict it will go down to the last game and we will scrape in with a victory at Crawley

A loss or draw on Monday would give us a mountain to climb. How high a mountain depends on other results.

A win would mein we are either in the mix or keeping up with rivals. Again depending on other results.

At this stage of the season and our position means we have to do our bit and rely on other scores. It is our of our hands in a way.

The mountain grew considerably after the Carlisle game. We need that win on Monday to keep up. A loss or draw means we would need a huge slice of luck to break the play offs.

Game at a time. Emphasis on attack, as if it's a cup final, in each fixture. Any defeat, game over. Any draw heralding the fat lady's appearance to the stage.

Amazing how the fixtures have worked out, it's down to the Crawley game for me, I don't actually think a draw would be the end just yet, I think we've got enough about us to scrape a win!!!

I agree, 3 wins needed, but feel Luton and Stevenage must be wins. Yesterday's results give a glimmer of hope that both of those sides could have lost their winning form.

Pompey should already be promoted when we get to play them, so may play some fringe players

When have you ever known Stags being given a favour?

Very true but they might be in a happy mood that day and still drink from celebrating

A draw against Luton wouldn't be the end but there would be no margin for error, I know stags like to do things the hard way but I think if we are to do it then the Luton and Stevenage games become must wins and then 1 win from the other 2. My reasoning for this is that taking point off of these two makes them more catchable, puts some pressure on their run-ins and if we were to meet them in the play offs we may have a psychological advantage.

Worst possible scenario is going to Crawley hoping that somebody above us has to lose .

Move on nothing to see here, it's a big ask with who we have to play.

Final game of the Conference winning season 1-0 v Wrexham. They rested players that day in preparation for the p/o's.

They also knew any reds they gained that day (no matter how bad they were) would be rescinded by the Welsh FA. ;)

It has to be "one game at a time" and treat it like the FA Cup.
The worst thing for the team to get obsessed with is that losing isn't an option. If they get too worried about losing then they'll get nervous and won't be able to win. I hope that Evans is telling them that there's nothing to lose, just enjoy the match and give it your best and no-one will blame you if it doesn't work out.
We really have to be prepared for going 2 down to Luton in the first half and not panicking.

Worse case scenario is going to Crawley 4 points of the play offs.

I agree. Our 6 game scoreless run followed by losing to Exeter has given us a mountain to climb. The dream is still 'possible' rather than 'probable'. Relax, go for it, take a few risks (at the right time) and see what happens.

That means that we need to be above Blackpool (and ideally uncatchable by any other team) going into the Crawley game - provided that we beat Crawley. It is possible, but a very, very tall order. If only we hadn't have lost that game to Exeter - I still think that was the big, season-defining moment. But fingers crossed!
