Ball boys & girls

Postby stag861 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 12:43 pm

When we played at Carlisle their ballboys all had towels for them to dry the ball on. (Until Evans complained to the ref). At Cheltenham one ball boy had a towel specifically for their long throw expert. At Colchester the ball boys didn't come out at half time when they were two up so players had to fetch the ball themselves thus ticking off the clock.
So on Saturday our ball boys are rushing around to get the ball to the Carlisle players.
So do we continue to be a fair play club or should we adopt the tactics of other clubs?

This sort of thing has been going on for years, I think I can remember John Beck doing it at Cambridge and Lincoln (as well as what looked like ploughing the Lincoln pitch to ensure we couldn't play football on it). Its the win at any costs mentality that makes a lot of people despise football, diving being another example of it.

I actually noticed out ball boys/girls on go slow once we got 1-0 up, so not sure where you saw them charging around. I expect someone has had a word in their ear and said when we aren't winning get the ball as quickly as possible, when we are winning, go a bit slower. But we don't need to stoop to other teams levels.

Agreed... and at the end of the day does it make a difference? Plenty of other ways to slow the game down, like keeping possession!

Google "Blackburn v Liverpool 1991 ball girl". She took a battering from Jimmy Hill on MOTD when only doing her job.

The One Call ballboys seem to be naturally slow anyway. In fact it seems that, once sat on their stools, some seem disinclined to move.

Winning games when you are one up is all about tempo. No manager is going to let the ball "handlers" dictate the tempo of the game. Two up in the last five minutes then is the time to withdraw the ball handlers.

I think it's one of these modern "non binary" terms
We think the same things at the same time
We just can't do anything about it
