Gutted theywon tonight. I wanted them to finish with half our points and 10 points adrift in 92nd.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

i for one, am glad that they won last night.
i just know that it will prove to some of them that without Sir Jacks help, they would have won automatic promotion, winning every game like that, further diminshing him in their eyes, and just like that, hero becomes zero!
never mind, Jack, you will always be a Stags legend, after this season!
my one regret is...i have no regrets!

"Chesterfield are a wonderful club with a fantastic Chairman. I have in the past tried to sign most of their players. They will be at the top of the league pushing for promotion. Jack Lester is a very talented young manager and has been a little unlucky." - Steve Evans

Interesting article by David Conn in The Guardian about them - and some brilliant comments by readers, including some Stags fans

It annoys me. DF's results have been disappointing, although better of late. Fans are quite right to have a go. I understand that. But because of his Lancashire accent (Bill Dearden) was similar they say he is boring. I think that's unfair. I agree about the motivation, but these fans assume he's the same when motivating the players.

Regarding the "Scottish" manager, because he speaks in a more up beat manner they hang on every word, even though it appears to be a load of hot air, designed to impress.

this team went from a management duo that micro managed every play and were vocal throughout to a chap that stands with his hands in his pockets, and that seems to have effected their results.

I don't think that's true, players have said that DF has taken the time to talk to players on how to improve their game (CJ and Angol) I believe .

It's gone from hating the old manager because he screamed at everyone for 90 mins, now we have a manager who doesn't do this people don't like that either. Perhaps we should have touchline auditions for new managers to see if he gets through to the next stage..

How is David Conn saying they are fourth oldest club when the present club wasn’t formed until 1919.

He should know better.

Bobby the screaming was getting us promoted, the hands in pocket quiet chats no matter what the players say in public has been a disaster.

In other words the "Scottish" manager was wet nursing them. If that's the case no wonder they went off the boil. What I don't understand is, they are grown men who are supposed to be professional footballer's.

Bobby also makes a good point about DF working with the players.

After reading the article, I don't think any club, despite history, have any more right of being in the EFL than any other club.

The thing that surprises me is that their fans seem to have accepted their fate with little protest. The old ploy of putting ex favourite players in charge (Lester and then Evett seems to have worked.

One paragraph of David Conn's article reads as follows

"The fruits of that approach, The Hub, excellent facilities built into the stadium’s east stand in which the Chesterfield FC Community Trust, a registered charity, runs school and social inclusion projects and programmes for people with disabilities, shone on Saturday like a beacon in the gloom."

This does not sit easily with the comment by one reader, 'RedTen' who said

"Now, on top of all that, the club have recently had to issue a statement on their website to reiterate their equality policies after a report to the police at a recent match of racist chanting by some of their own fans."

Their club is a contradiction in terms which now features constant arguments between themselves, understandable perhaps in their situation, not helped by their behaviour from top to bottom, which is where they seem to be heading.
