Gainsborough Trinity v Grimsby Town

Postby Tippy Tappy Football » Fri Jul 29, 2016 2:47 pm

I went to watch Grimsby Town at the The Northolme on Wednesday. Grimsby played well in the first half and went in at half time 2-1 up with goals from Omar Bogle and Luke Summerfield. The Mariners had Scott Vernon on trial up front, Ben Davies at right back and former Stags loanee, Danny Andrew, at left back. Craig Disley started but went off injured after only a few minutes.

Grimsby made changes at half time and were not as good in the 2nd half. The centre half pairing of Andrew Boyce and Dan Jones did not play well with the former giving away a penalty and the latter struggling to cope with the physical presence of Jacob Hazel up front. Matt Wilson equalized for Trinity with a header from a corner. James McKeown then tipped Ashley Worsfold's shot on to the bar but Worsfold followed up to score the winner. The best Grimsby player by a long way was striker Omar Bogle. He scored an excellent goal and had another one unluckily disallowed. I'd have him in the Stags team. Attendance: 481
