LEE ANGOL TURNS DOWN MOVE TO GRIMSBY
7th August 2018 11:33

Tuesday 07 August 2018

David Flitcroft said about Lee Angol:

"I spoke to Lee on Sunday. Lee doesn't feel the move to Grimsby is right for him. Once you accept a bid, the player has to feel right about that move. He's got a contract here. So he's turned the move down, which he's got the right to do. So if Lee stays, it gives me that chance to work with Lee, and improve him, like we're trying to do with all the players. If Lee embraces what we're doing, we work on that body language, and we work on him running behind and getting in that box ... because he's a talent ... then I do believe that we'll have a good season with him. I've got to make him become that number 9 that absolutely leads the line for Mansfield Town, and give our supporters what they deserve from Lee. So that's probably a longer term project than I've had with him up to now. And get that consistency, find that consistency in him. That's something that, if he doesn't end up going, I've got to work with Lee on that, and Lee's got to work with us, to keep improving him."

The club have accepted a bid from Grimsby Town for striker Lee Angol. Angol was left out of Saturday’s 3-0 opening day win over Newport County.

David Flitcroft said: "On Lee Angol, we've accepted a bid from Grimsby. They spoke to Lee yesterday and his representatives, and they're currently working on that.

"Lee's had the weekend off to think about the potential move. We'll know more probably on Monday. That's something that we might progress on Monday, but we might not."
