Mansfield Town report racist abuse against skipper Krystian Pearce after Owls debacle
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Monday 30 July 2018

Mansfield Town Football Club have reported an allegation of racist abuse directed at its captain Krystian Pearce to both the Football Association and Nottinghamshire Police following last week’s home friendly against Sheffield Wednesday, which ended in a mass brawl.

Pearce was clearly livid at something that happened involving Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri and had to be physically hauled off the field by manager David Flitcroft just before the end. Forestieri was then involved in another incident with Calum Butcher which sparked the mass brawl.

by PAUL DAVIS, Monday 30 July 2018

Sheffield Wednesday are at the centre of a second enquiry following Mansfield Town's decision to report a claim of racial abuse to police and football's governing body.

The Football Association were already investigating unsavoury scenes after the final whistle of the Owls' 2-1 pre-season defeat gainst the Stags at the One Call Stadium last Tuesday when fists were thrown as players from both sides confronted each other in a mass melee.

Another probe has been launched now that Mansfield have made an official complaint.

However there was worrying news about Preston’s defensive partner Krystian Pearce after the game. Pearce was substituted on 39 minutes after he had been tended to by the physio. After the game boss David Flitcroft explained that Pearce was not “mentally in-tune with the game”, “not totally focussed” and didn’t “commit to the game” in the after-spill of the game against Sheffield Wednesday which ended in that brawl on Tuesday night. Flitcroft later said he would not be signing trialist central defender Nathan Cameron as his injury is not short term but added that he would be looking to sign a loan central defender in addition as “we now have a potential issue with Pearcey”. This suggests that the issue with Pearce may not be short term. We’ll see I suppose. One thing I’m sure of is that the club will do the right thing by Pearce, whatever that is. I’m expecting that we will hear more about this issue on Tuesday.

LATER STORY
Mansfield Town hoping on availability of Krystian Pearce
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Tuesday 31 July 2018

Mansfield Town are hoping skipper Krystian Pearce will feel ready to lead the side on Saturday for the big opening home clash with Newport County on Saturday. An incident in the Sheffield Wednesday friendly last week led to a mass brawl and Stags reporting the Owls to the FA and Police for an alleged racist remark, denied by Wednesday. A furious Pearce had to be hauled off the field by manager David Flitcroft that night and, on Saturday, he was brought off before the interval with Flitcroft deciding he was in no fit state mentally to focus.

“We hope he will be right for Saturday - he trained yesterday,” said Flitcroft.

“I have the utmost respect for Krystian Pearce and what he’s stepped up to do. But that took its toll on him. “It is mental pressure and when your mental state is not brilliant, your physical state not either as the two work in tandem and always have and always will.

“The PFA and Kick It Out campaign are supporting tools. “It’s really important we support Krystian over the next weeks or months, whatever it’s going to be. “We have got to do that. I have been very good at that over the years I have been doing this as a coach.

“I manage these players like they are my own family - tough love but also unconditional support. “Krystian will get every bit of support we can offer him through this testing time. “He is meeting the chairman and Carolyn Radford, who want to offer their support too.

“We will get round him. The PFA and Kick It Out have put good structures around to deal with this sort of thing. “So it’s important we all say the same message. “We will get Krystian back to his best and get him up and running.”
