mansfieldtown.net, Wednesday 21 March 2018

Stags' owner and chairman John Radford has expressed his excitement after plans were submitted for a Hampton-by-Hilton at the oldest professional football ground in the world.

The 100-room hotel, which has already received high-acclaim from local businesses, would be built adjacent to the Quarry Lane Stand.

Speaking to http://www.mansfieldtown.net, chairman John Radford said: "I’m genuinely excited about the prospect of a Hampton-by-Hilton Hotel at One Call Stadium.

“Everything has been very positive surrounding the news of the plans and the feedback we have received from people in Mansfield and local businesses.

“The One Call Stadium is the oldest football professional football ground in the world - it’s a landmark. A new hotel of this quality next to the stadium will help the development of the football club and engrave the club and the Town further onto the map.

"It will be great for Mansfield and will create jobs and opportunities for businesses to use greater facilities in the Town instead of heading out of the area.”

Mansfield Town FC's proposed hotel to create at least 25 jobs
chad.co.uk, by JESSICA DALLISON, Monday 19 March 2018

Mansfield Town’s hotel dreams are one step closer as a planning application is submitted - which revealed that at least 25 jobs could be up for grabs if the hotel is built.

Mansfield Town FC has submitted planning papers to Mansfield District Council for a 100-bedroom hotel to be built between the Ian Greaves stand and the Quarry Lane End at the One Call Stadium on Quarry Lane.

The multi-million-pound hotel, which is looking to be operated by Hampton by Hilton, looks to also have a bar and viewing platform which looks out onto the football pitch.

In the application submitted last week, it revealed that the hotel is expected to create at least 25 jobs new jobs, including 17 full-time and eight part-time jobs.

Papers attached to the application state: “This excludes seasonal work and other temporary positions that may be required to help support events, functions and conferences held at the One Call Stadium.

“It is anticipated that additional jobs will be created by more conferences and functions taking place within Mansfield Town FC’s existing conference and event facilities.”

During the £10m construction of the proposed development 48 full-time jobs will be created over the 16-18 month build period.

John Radford, club owner and chairman has said the branding of the hotel will ‘significantly increase the profile of the town’. In a letter included in the application, he stated: “Mansfield does not, with respect, have a good quality hotel within the town centre.

“We are all committed to the development of Mansfield Town and enhancing the contribution it makes to the community in terms of our performances on the pitch.

“This proposed development will help us increase our contribution to the economy, to local businesses and raise the profile of the town.”

Club bosses have said that the building of the hotel, which is set to take 18 months to complete, will not ‘inconvenience’ training at the club as they will use the new training ground on Woburn Lane, Pleasley.

A letter signed by Sarah Green, development director for UK and Ireland at Hilton, said: “Our stadium partners have commented that the presence of a hotel on their site means the stadium turns into a seven days a week, 365 days a year operation as opposed to just being busy on event days. “We have seen examples where this has really driven increased business usage and attracted regional investment to the town. “For all these reasons we believe that the stadium location represents the most attractive location for us within Mansfield and will provide a distinctly separate offer from any other form of hotel which may be promoted within the town centre.”

It is estimated that work will start in 2020.
