Tafazolli opts to join Posh
mansfieldtown.net, 6th June 2016

Defender Ryan Tafazolli has this afternoon signed a three-year deal with League 1 side Peterborough United.

The 24-year-old was out of contract at One Call Stadium at the end of last season and despite Adam Murray offering Tafazolli a new deal to remain at the club, the defender has chosen to move on.

The former Southampton man made 44 Sky Bet League 2 appearances for the Stags last season and scored five goals in the process.

Speaking about the departure of Tafazolli, manager Adam Murray said: "We had an inkling during the second half of last season that Ryan would be leaving us.

"The deal which the chairman offered him was 'up there' with any offer he received elsewhere, but Taff has chosen to challenge himself at a higher level.

Posh-bound Tafazolli thanks Stags for ‘four amazing years’
chad.co.uk, by John Lomas, Monday 06 June 2016

Out-of-contract defender Ryan Tafazolli thanked Mansfield Town for four ‘amazing’ years as he left the club today to join League One Peterborough United.

It was also revealed he turned down late interest from two Championship clubs to sign for the Posh.

After signing a three-year deal at London Road, Tafazolli tweeted: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Mansfield Town FC.

“I have had an amazing four years and I’ve been honoured to spend that time at such a great club.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time there and built some relationships that will last for life.

“A massive thank you also goes to the fans who have supported me, the club is in good hands and I know you will get the success you deserve.

“However, the next chapter in my life has begun and I am extremely delighted to have committed to Peterborough United FC for the next three years.

“I am sure the challenge that lies ahead will not only be exciting but a successful one too. I can’t wait to get started and will be giving 100 per cent on a daily basis to get what this special club deserves - promotion.

Tafazolli also told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: “There was a lot of interest, but coming from a League Two side I knew the most important thing for me this season was to go to a club where the manager wants me, I’ve got a good chance of playing and the club will be pushing for promotion.

“It ticked all the boxes for me and it was a no-brainer. Someone used the analogy of football being like a game of snakes and ladders. You can get on a big ladder (and go up) and get on a snake and come back down again.

“It’s all about stepping stones and I think this is the perfect one for me.”

Tafazolli becomes Posh manager Grant McCann’s third summer signing and McCann told club website http://www.theposh.com: “Ryan is a super player.

“He has won a lot of awards for his performances at Mansfield both this season and last and he will be a threat in both boxes. He is an excellent defender.

“I feel we don’t attack the ball from set-pieces well enough and he will certainly improve that.

“He is a left-footer, which provides a bit of balance to the back-line and I know that there was a lot of interest in him.

“There were two Championship sides in for him this week but his commitment has not been in question because he didn’t even go and speak to them because he wanted to sign for Peterborough.”

Tafazolli became the second player today to confirm a move away from the One Call Stadium with winger Reggie Lambe joining League Two rivals Carlisle United.

Tafazolli Agrees Posh Switch
theposh.com, 6th June 2016, by Phil Adlam

Grant McCann has made his third signing of the summer with the arrival of highly-rated defender.

Peterborough United are pleased to announce the signing of highly-rated defender Ryan Tafazolli on a three-year contract after the centre back turned down a new deal at Mansfield Town and rejected advances from a host of other clubs.

The 24-year-old, who began his career within the renowned Southampton Academy, completed the paperwork at the ABAX Stadium on Monday afternoon and becomes manager Grant McCann's third summer signing.

Tafazolli won five awards at the Stags end of season presentation evening last season and McCann was delighted to secure his signature.

"Ryan is a super player. He has won a lot of awards for his performances at Mansfield both this season and last and he will be a threat in both boxes. He is an excellent defender, I feel we don't attack the ball from set-pieces well enough and he will certainly improve that.

There were two Championship sides in for him this week but his commitment has not been in question because he didn't even go and speak to them because he wanted to sign for Peterborough," McCann said.

The deal is subject to the paperwork being approved by the Football League and the Football Association.

NEW SIGNING: Ryan expects to keep clean sheets and score goals!
peterboroughtoday.co.uk, by ALAN SWANN, Monday 06 June 2016

Peterborough United’s ambition ensured highly-rated centre-back Ryan Tafazolli signed for the club today (June 6).

The 24 year-old signed a three-year contract at the ABAX Stadium after making over 100 first-team appearances in four seasons at Mansfield Town.

Tafazolli’s form at the League Two club - he won all the fans’ player-of-the-year prizes last season - meant interest from clubs at Championship level as well as League One level was inevitable.

But Tafazolli chose Posh, soon after meeting new first-team manager Grant McCann.

“The club’s ambition matched mine,” Tafazolli stated, “I wanted to play above League Two level, I wanted to play for a manager who wanted me, I wanted to join a club where I will probably play and I wanted to play for a club pushing for promotion.

“The manager sold the club to me in that way. He seems like a good guy. I liked his philosophy. The club ticked all the boxes for me so it became a no-brainer of a decision, but ambition was the key. Promotion has to be the aim and I’m sure we’ll get it. Everything I look for in a club is here.

“It you want an easy analogy, football is like snakes and ladders with ups and downs. I believe this will be a perfect stepping stone for me.

“I’m already excited about the season ahead. I will make sure I come back in great shape ready to impress in pre-season.”

Tafazolli is a third new defensive signing this summer. Posh have also brought full-backs Hayden White and Andrew Hughes to the club.

But Tafazolli also believes he will be an attacking threat.

“I scored six goals for Mansfield last season and I’ll be aiming for 10 goals next season.

“I do pride myself on clean sheets though. That’s the main part of my job. I’m 6ft 5ins and in good physical shape, but I also like to play football in the right way.”

McCann is naturally thrilled to land his man.

He said: “Ryan is a super player. He has won a lot of awards for his performances at Mansfield both this season and last and he will be a threat in both boxes. He is an excellent defender, but I feel we don’t attack the ball from set-pieces well enough and he will certainly improve that.

“He is a left-footer, which provides a bit of balance to the back-line and I know that there was a lot of interest in him. There were two Championship sides in for him this week, but his commitment has not been in question because he didn’t even go and speak to them because he wanted to sign for Peterborough.”
