Mansfield Town chief Adam Murray says he is happy with how his squad is progressing throughout pre-season.

The Stags’ boss watched his side stroll to a 4-1 friendly win at Worksop Town on Wednesday night.

And speaking directly after the match, Murray was happy that his players continue to build towards their League Two opener at home to Carlisle on August 8.

He told the Chad: “The biggest thing is getting match fitness into the players.

“Coming into it, with a nice pitch here, we knew it would be a good game and I really enjoyed the evening.

“We’ve been mixing it around for the last few games just to look at certain people playing with each other.

“It’s alright training every day and doing double or triple sessions, but there’s nothing that matches having that match fitness.

“I think we lacked a bit of organisation but that will come with games.

“But we’ve got a lot of games coming up and the more minutes we can get into the boys, the better they’ll get.

“The most pleasing thing was the togetherness.

“There was no individuals out there.”

Goals from Craig Westcarr, Malvind Benning, Reggie Lambe and Adi Yussuf secured the win for Murray’s men on Wednesday, but he was most pleased with the contribution of newcomer Mitch Rose.

He added: “Overall I’m really happy and was pleased with the workout.

“Mitch Rose worked hard for 90 minutes and was effective in his position.

“Adi (Yussuf) came on and scored a great goal too.”

The Stags will split their squad for games at Barnsley and Solihull Moors on Saturday.

Mansfield Town boss pleased with squad's 'togetherness'

Boss Adam Murray says there is a 'togetherness' about his new-look Mansfield Town side.

The former skipper has overhauled the dressing room during the summer as he looks to put his stamp on the squad ahead of the new League Two campaign.

And he is pleased how quickly the players have gelled together.

The Stags continued their pre-season build-up in midweek with a 4-1 victory at Worksop Town, courtesy of goals from Craig Westcarr, Malvind Benning, Reggie Lambe and Adi Yussuf.

The squad will be split in two for Bobby Hassell's testimonial at Barnsley and another friendly at Solihull Moors tomorrow, with Murray eager to build-up his charges' minutes on the pitch.

"We've been mixing it around for the last few games just to look at certain people playing with each other," said the manager (pictured).

"It's alright training every day and doing double or triple sessions, but there's nothing that matches having that match fitness.

"I think we lacked a bit of organisation (against Worksop) but that will come with games.

"But we've got a lot of games coming up and the more minutes we can get into the boys, the better they'll get.

"The most pleasing thing was the togetherness.

"There was no individuals out there."

Newcomers Mitchell Rose and Yussuf, in particular, stood out on Wednesday night.

"Mitch Rose worked hard for 90 minutes and was effective in his position," Murray added.

"Adi came on and scored a great goal too."

The Stags' game at Solihull Moors kicks off at 1.30pm. Admission prices are £5 for adults and £2 for under-16s.

Bobby Hassell's testimonial at Barnsley, is scheduled for 3pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (senior citizens (65-plus), young adults (16-21) and under-16s).
