Westlake, who has made 10 appearances for the Blades this term, could make his debut in Saturday’s home match with Morecambe in Sky Bet League Two.

The 22-year-old began his career with Walsall and featured on 67 occasions for the Saddlers, before penning a two-year deal at Bramall Lane in June 2012.

He made his Football League debut as an 18-year-old in August 2009, and featured on 76 occasions during his time at the Banks Stadium.

Westlake, who primarily operates at full-back, helped his parent club reach the League One Play-Offs last season, making 17 appearances.

The defender is eligible to stay with us until midnight on Sunday 05 January 2014.

Blades defender Westlake joins Stags on loan
chad.co.uk, 28 November 2013

Mansfield Town today landed Sheffield United right back Darryl Westlake on a month’s loan just before the loans transfer deadline at 5pm.

The 22-year-old has played over 80 League games in a career that began at Walsall before he moved to the Blades in summer 2012.

The Sutton Coldfield-born youngster turned down a new contract at Walsall after losing his place to Stags’ current defender Lee Beevers so the two will now be reunited.

Westlake will provide cover for Ritchie Sutton, who will be out for the next six weeks with a thigh injury.

Mansfield Town: Darryl Westlake adds quality, says boss Paul Cox

Loan signing Darryl Westlake can add an "extra dimension" to the Mansfield Town defence, according to manager Paul Cox.
The 22-year-old right-back is poised to make his Stags debut against Morecambe on Saturday after joining from Sheffield United until 5 January.
Westlake is set to replace Ritchie Sutton, who is ruled out for six weeks with a thigh injury.
"Darryl's just the kind of quality addition we're looking for," manager Paul Cox told BBC Sport.
"First and foremost he's a good defender, particularly in one-on-one situations, but he also offers a lot going forward.
"When you've played at a higher level as he has, then dropping down to League Two, he can add that extra dimension and bit of quality."
Westlake has made 10 appearances for Sheffield United in League One this season, most recently in a 0-0 draw at Peterborough last month, and previously played 78 times at Walsall.
Cox added: "With the transfer window closing, I wanted to make sure that we weren't left short in defensive areas as Lee Beevers was my only other recognised right-back.
"Both Darryl and Lee are versatile and can play in a number of positions, in fact they were together at Walsall, so that's good to know going into a busy period for us."
Meanwhile, Cox expects that Lee Stevenson, injured along with Sutton in Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at Burton, will be out for about a week with an ankle problem.

The right-back has made 27 appearances for United, including seven starts this season, since joining from Walsall in the summer of 2012.

United have a 24-hour recall option on Westlake after the first 28 days of his loan, whilst the defender has been given permission to play for the Stags in the FA Cup.

The 22-year-old could make his Town debut against Morecambe at the One Call Stadium on Saturday.

He is the second Blades full-back to be loaned out on Thursday following Scunthorpe’s capture of Marcus Williams.

Darryl became Danny Wilson's first permanent signing of the 2012-13 close season when he agreed a two-year deal (with an option for a third) in July 2012. The defender had been offered a new deal with Walsall, where he rose through the ranks, but opted for a switch to Bramall Lane. He made his Football League debut as an 18-year-old and went on to make 76 appearances for the Saddlers. The reliable and whole-hearted performer is a former Young Player of the Year at the Bescot Stadium. In his first season at Bramall Lane he proved his versatility and was an able deputy for regular right-back Tony McMahon.
