Greg Taylor Signs Two-Year Deal With The U's.
Left-back Greg Taylor agrees to join Cambridge United on a two-year deal.
The 23 year-old will join officially on 1st July from Luton Town once his current contract ends, where he has made 34 appearances since an initial loan move from Darlington in 2011; a deal later made permanent with a significant transfer fee in January 2012.
Greg spent the end of last season on loan at Mansfield Town, helping them win the Blue Square Bet Premier with 8 appearances for the Stags. The defender was already familiar with the club and he commented on why he was happy to sign for the U’s: “I’ve played here a few times and it’s always been one of my favourite grounds in the league - the pitch is immaculate and the fans are always noisy which is a big factor when you play against Cambridge.
“I already know Ian Miller, Adam Cunnington and Richard Tait so it’s nice to come into a team where you know a few people. They’re all good lads and I’m happy to be working with them again.”
The Bedford-born defender started his career at Northampton Town before establishing himself in the first team at Kettering Town.
A successful spell with the Poppies was followed by a transfer to Darlington before Taylor moved back to the south to play for Luton and he is now hoping to make himself at home at The R Costings Abbey Stadium.
Taylor continued: "I have been speaking to Jez [George, Director of Football] and Richard [Money, Head Coach] for a while now and we agreed to meet for a chat. They were both very positive regarding where the club was heading, what they could offer me and where they saw the team going this season."
“I wanted to be a part of that and I wanted to get settled somewhere this season, I believe Cambridge is the place for me to do that.”
Taylor ended by outlining his personal aims for the season ahead: “My goals are to play as many games as I can and perhaps prove a few people wrong."
“I just want to enjoy my football and show the supporters what I am capable of.”
