PROSPECTS VERY HOPEFUL AT MERSEYRAIL COMMUNITY STADIUM FOR MANSFIELD

Updated report Friday evening (4pm):

The prospects remain good for Saturday's Southport v Mansfield Town Blue Square Bet fixture. Light snow has fallen on Friday morning but with no frost the pitch is playable at this stage. The pitch under the light snow is playable. We will leave the snow on overnight as this insulates against the minus one overnight forecast.

Everything depends on the weather overnight. The forecast is favourable and with a team in place to remove the snow from early morning we are confident the match will go ahead.

The terraces will be swept and cleared in the morning though we have very little snow on the terrace areas.

A pitch inspection is scheduled for 8:30am on Saturday morning.

We will up date first thing in the morning.

We are all optimistic we can put the Blue Square Bet Premier Southport v Mansfield Town fixture on

Tomorrow's match away at Southport is likely to go ahead, Sandgrounders' officials told us this morning.

Ken Hilton, the Southport secretary, said he was 'very confident' that the match would be played.

Speaking to mansfieldtown.net at 9.25am this morning, Mr Hilton said: "I was on the pitch at 7.55am today and there was no snow on the pitch, it was soft on foot. I'm very confident the match will go ahead.

"We do have light snow now [as we speak] but that should clear by mid-day.

"We've had no frost in the last two nights and if we were playing today the match would be on," he added.

Temperatures are expected to dip over night, however, and as a precaution, Southport have called an 8.30am pitch inspection before the Stags' team coach sets off tomorrow morning
