Reserves run riot at Quorn
mansfieldtown.net, Wed 04 Apr 2012

A strong reserve side ran out 7-2 winners at Quorn FC last night in a friendly, as Paul Cox prepared a number of his players ahead of the five games of the season.

The side captained by John Thompson included Jon Worthington, Lee Stevenson and Matt Rhead whilst Louis Briscoe and Adam Smith, who started in our 1-0 win over Ebbsfleet at the weekend, started on the right and left wing respectively.

It was Smith who was first to influence the game after a mazy run down the left channel earned Stags a throw which was launched in by Danny Andrew and headed home by Matt Rhead with less than a minute on the clock.

Ben Hutchinson doubled our lead on 13 minutes following a defensive mix up before the hosts grabbed one back eleven minutes later as Shane Redmond was beaten to the ball as he raced off his line to mop up.

Matt Rhead added his second with an emphatic strike from just inside the area on 32 minutes to put us 3-1 ahead at the break. However 55 seconds into the second half, a flowing move by Quorn from left to right saw them garb a second.

Skipper John Thompson headed home Danny Andrew's 70th minute corner to extend our lead and Lee Stevenson bridged the gap to 5-2 five minutes later, converting past the keeper from Matt Rhead's assist.

Youth team front man Adam Somes then came off the bench for the final fifteen minutes and got himself on the score sheet when he hammered home from inside the box on 80 minutes. Somes then turned provider when he set up Lee Stevenson to add Stags' seventh on 83 minutes.

Line Up: Redmond, Todd, Thompson (C), Craven, Andrew, Briscoe, Worthington, Stevenson, Smith, Rhead, Hutchinson
