The 27-year-old midfielder has made just one appearance for us this season, away at Gateshead, but has been hindered by a foot injury for most of the campaign.

Manager Paul Cox told http://www.mansfieldtown.net: "Lee has just come back from injury and hasn't played a lot of football this season.

"It was a hard one [to let him go] but he needs sharpness and match fitness, and he won't get that by playing behind-closed-door games.

"The loan is in both Lee's interests, and the club. He'll come back with a fresh impetus."

Stevenson will not be allowed to play for Alfreton against us on Saturday 22 October and is not FA Cup tied

Stags boss Cox answers cry for help
Nottingham Post, Wednesday, October 12, 2011

PAUL Cox has let Mansfield Town's Lee Stevenson go out on a month's loan to rivals Alfreton Town because of the player's 'cry for help'.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/story-13537765-detail/story.html

The goalscoring midfielder has made just one appearance since joining in the summer – the club's second game 3-0 defeat at Gateshead.

He then watched Mansfield put together an eight-game unbeaten run before breaking his toe.

Stevenson played in Monday's 1-1 friendly draw with Solihull Moors, where Paul Connor scored for Stags.

But he is desperate to get regular, competitive football so he can hit the ground running when he is handed his chance at Field Mill.

Stevenson went straight into Alfreton's squad to host Lincoln City last night.

"Lee was getting frustrated," said Cox. "I think he feels like he has let himself and the club down because he has not got out of first gear.

"I've had numerous clubs wanting to take him but I have always said 'no' because I know what a good player he is and that he is going to play a massive part for this club.

"But he came to see me and said he would like the chance to get himself fit and sharp. It was basically a cry for help. He wanted me to help him help me."

Stevenson cannot play in Alfreton's game against Mansfield nor will he play in cup ties.

Bury have given on-loan defender Ben Futcher permission to play in the Stags' FA Cup qualifying round game

The 27-year-old has made just one appearance for Mansfield this season, away at Gateshead.

He has been injured by a broken toe, which has only recently seen him return to first team action.

"Lee has just come back from injury and hasn't played a lot of football this season," said Cox.

"It was a hard one (to let him go) but he needs sharpness and match fitness, and he won't get that by playing behind-closed-door games."
