Stags loan out full-back
Evening Post, February 01, 2010

MANSFIELD Town left-back Paul Heckingbottom has today joined Blue Square Premier rivals Gateshead on loan for the rest of the season.

The 32-year-old has been in an out of the Stags team this season, with Craig Armstrong preferred in recent games.
Heckingbottom has made 13 appearances for the Stags, scoring one goal.
But he has largely disappointed after coming to Field Mill with an excellent track record in League football.
The Barnsley-born player can still play for the Stags if they make the play-offs.
But Heckingbottom cannot play for the Heed against Mansfield this weekend under the terms of the loan agreement.
"Paul wants to play first team football and Gateshead can guarantee him that," said Holdsworth.
"We obviously wish him every success there."
Holdsworth is hoping to bring in another left-back before the permanent transfer window closes at 5pm today.
Meanwhile, the Stags have arranged a reserve friendly with Nottingham Forest for Wednesday.
Those players who do not play a full part at Wrexham tomorrow night are expected to be given a run out.

CHAD.co.uk, 01 February 2010, By John Lomas
MANSFIELD Town left-back Paul Heckingbottom has joined BSP rivals Gateshead on loan until the end of the season.

With limited first team opportunities available to him at Field Mill now Craig Armstrong has battled his way back into the side, the decision was made to allow the 32-year-old to play on a more regular basis.

However, he, like ex-Stag Daryl Clare, will not be allowed to play against Mansfield during the Tynesiders' visit to Field Mill on Saturday.

"Paul will go there on loan to the end of the season so if we are in the play-offs and short of a left back we can bring him back," said manager David Holdsworth.

"This has been going on for 10 days now. Paul wants to play first team football and Gateshead can guarantee him that. We wish him well for the future."

Heckingbottom joined Mansfield at the start of the season following his release from Bradford City and has made 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.

Today is the last day of the January transfer window and, with Jon Shaw, Luke Foster and Neil Collett having just joined the club, there was no news of further incoming players as of 4.20pm this afternoon.
