09 Feb 2009

Neville Hamilton, who played for the Stags between 1979 and 1981, has died at the age of 48.

He is very fondly remembered by Stags fans.

Hamilton joined Mansfield from Leicester in January 1979 for £25,000, having played 4 times for the Foxes. He played in the centre of midfield for the Stags and scored 4 league goals in 89 league appearances. He joined Rochdale in August 1981. He joined Wolves in summer 1984 but suffered a heart attack during pre-season training and was forced to retire on medical grounds. After recovery, he qualified as an FA coach and joined Leicester City as Community Department officer in 1989 and later as an Academy coach.

Everyone at Mansfield Town FC, the SSA and Stagsnet sends their deepest condolences to his family.

Here we remember Neville, with photos of 3 of his league goals for the Stags:

Mansfield 1 Bury 0, 13Oct79

Mansfield 1 Darlington 0, 6Sep80

Mansfield 3 Wigan 1, 27Sep80

Hamilton's other league goal came in a 5-0 win over Plymouth on 12Mar79 (report here, but no photo available).
