Stags bring in young keeper
CHAD.co.uk, 05 January 2009
MANSFIELD Town boss David Holdsworth has brought in the second of two promised keepers on Wednesday.

After releasing Nottingham Forest's Paddy Gamble at the end of his five-month loan, Holdsworth on Monday said he hoped to sign two keepers before the weekend.

On Tuesday the first was revealed as former Lincoln stopper Alan Marriott, who signed until the end of the season from Rushden.

Now the second has been revealed as 18-year-old Dan Whatsize, released by Chesterfield earlier in the season who has joined the Stags on trial.

Stags' current keepers Jason White, still recovering from injury, and teenager Luke Herriott, ill, are not likely to figure in the first team squad this weekend.

That means Whatsize - who has also played one match for Conference North Tamworth - is likely to figure in the 16 for the Altrincham match on Saturday.

Boss Holdsworth told mansfieldtown.net: "I have been aware of Dan's quality for some time now. He is a young goalkeeper who is enthusiastic about joining Mansfield Town"

The manager has also strengthened his squad with the signing of midfielder Curtis Woodhouse (Monday) and striker Rob Duffy (earlier on Wednesday) and hopes to add more new faces this week.
