Stags sign defender on loan
CHAD.co.uk, 04 October 2008
By Tim Morriss
MANSFIELD Town on Saturday morning confirmed that they had strengthened their squad with the loan signing of central defender Maxine Chanot.
The 18-year-old Frenchman, from Sheffield United, is in the squad for his afternoon's match against Woking.

He will provide cover for the back four which currently has experienced centre half Adie Moses trying to shake off an injury.

Chanot, a 6ft 2ins defender, has played 15 matches for the Blades' reserve team.

His switch to Field Mill was first reported late on Friday by the official Football Conference website, which described the move as an emergency loan.

"I have seen him two or three times and know he will do okay at this level," manager Billy McEwan told Chad.

"He is not that experienced. But he is experienced enough to handle this league.

"He is strong with good attitude and can head and kick it. He has a good appreciation of the game.

"The other defender I was in for two weeks ago is experienced but he has done his groin and is out for two weeks. I may bring him in also when he is fit again.

"We are third and doing well. But we need more experience in and we can't rest on our laurels."

McEwan dismissed reports that he had made a move for Scunthorpe United winger Peter Winn, saying: "I have not spoken to the lad so I don't know where this has come from. I have watched him but he is one of many I have looked at."
