SFU HITS £20,000 ... AND MORE DONATIONS NEEDED
6 June 2008
THE newly-formed Stags Fans United (SFU) is well on the way to hitting its first fundraising target of £25,000 within the first week, after collecting £20,000 by today (Friday).
Now the SFU is urging more fans to back its appeal to raise £250,000 to buy a future share in running Mansfield Town Football Club.
The group is a merger of the club's four major fans groups - the Stags Supporters Association (SSA), Stags Fans For Change (SFFC), TEAM Mansfield (TM) and Ollerton Stags Supporters Club (OSSC).
At a major public meeting on Monday it launched its appeal, hoping to use money donated to buy a 'significant shareholding' in the Stags under any suitable new owners.
Since then money has been handed over by generous fans, who are being asked to donate a minimum of £100 to join the TEAM Mansfield Trust (soon to be renamed the Stags Fans United Supporters Trust).
Some have been sending in £100, but others have been donating even more - one fan as much as £1,000 - to the cause.
Fans will receive one voting share in the Trust, regardless of how much they donate.
Now the Trust is appealing for more fans to back their campaign - using the slogan 'If you care buy a share'.
A spokesman said: "It is a fantastic effort to have reached £20,000 by Friday, but we need to keep the momentum going and more donations will make a real difference.
"This is our opportunity to make a significant difference to how our club is run and we call on all Stags fans to seize it."
The SFU, which is looking for new members to work on its board, added: "Any deal which is negotiated by the Supporters Trust with new owners will be subject to being approved by a majority of the members of the Trust.
"However, the supporters Trust is not prepared to enter into
any negotiations with Keith Haslam or John Batchelor."
Any fans with questions about the SFU and its aims can email: email@example.com

Use this form here to donate money to the Supporters Trust towards its £250,000 target to help future owners of the Stags in return for a significant say in the running of the club.
Clarifications: TEAM Mansfield will still be the supporters trust but will be renamed the Stags Fans United Supporters Trust. All money and legal transaction will take place through this.
The trust board will be filled by current members of the TM Board (with some stepping down) and by electing representatives from the other supporters organisations (Stags Fans for Change, OSSC, SSA). This will be formalised at the AGM.
