FTYBR WIN AT INTER BLADES
16th March 2008 22:11

STAGS BLUNT BLADES
National IFA League

Inter Blades (Sheffield United) 0 FTYBR FC (Mansfield Town) 2

Goals J Wheatman 30, 67.

The Stags supporters' side, FTYBR FC finally got back into action with a visit to Sheffield United on the morning of Stags vital clash away at Bradford City.

The previous IFA game had seen the side come back from going two nil down to winning 3-2 in Grimsby, with all three goals being scored from distance by Jono Rowe, James Brown and the winner from Dave Baxter.

Dressed smartly in their new Stags away shirts, sponsored by Acorn signs and engraving the Mansfield took the game to their hosts early on. The experienced centre midfield pairing of Dave Baxter and Daz Plume marshalling the side well.

The first chance of the game came to Drew Stokes who was closed down well in the area when it looked like he was going to pull the trigger.

The United side were gamely trying to get a foothold in the game but were thwarted by a fast tackling defence and smart handling by Nick Sankey between the sticks.

Up front the speedy, Gary Bird was causing problems but it was his striking partner, Jamie Wheatman who stole the show with a terrific shot on the turn on 30 minutes.

Further chance came and went but at half time and still 1-0 to the good it was felt that the side still had more to offer.

The 2nd half mirrored the first with United pushing more men forward but getting little or no results. Then 20 minutes into the 2nd half, Wheatman scored Mansfield's 2nd and game killing goal albeit with the aid of a deflection.

The result was well merited and indeed the side could have scored more, although United did have one cleared off the line by Ady Coupe and saw another effort superbly saved by Sankey, they could have no complaints and were well beaten by a Mansfield side who were clearly better on the day.

This weekend FTYBR FC face the Internet Mariners on Abbott Road with an 11 am kick off. Please come along and support the lads.

Team line up.

Sankey, Coupe, Brunt, Rowe, Brown, Stokes, J Bird, Plume, Baxter, G Bird, Wheatman, Waddington.
