INJURY-HIT D'LARYEA INSISTS: I'LL BE READY
Evening Post,20 June 2007 Jonathan D'Laryea remains confident he will be ready to start Mansfield's new League Two campaign in August - even though his recovery from an ankle injury is behind schedule. The influential midfielder had hoped to report back fit for pre-season training on July 5, along with the rest of his team-mates. But D'Laryea, 21, has conceded that is now unlikely and has instead pinned his hopes on playing some part in the pre-season build-up. "It is taking a little longer than expected and I'm not going to be ready for the start of the pre-season, as was the aim," he said. "But as long as I am able to play some part in pre-season, and then be ready for the new campaign, I won't mind too much." "I have been asking the physio when I can start running again and he told me to wait until I had returned from my holiday. "I have been to see him since getting back and he has given me the nod to start some jogging, so that's a relief." D'Laryea sustained the injury in the 0-0 derby draw at Notts County in March. He first had his foot in an aircast boot for just over a month to aid the recovery process and, since having it removed, has been working to maintain his overall fitness. He said: "Every day I have been doing 20 minutes on the bike and then on the cross-trainer, which helps to loosen up the ankle. "I have also had some muscle wastage on my calf, so I have been doing my best to strengthen it. "It's going to be hard work because I am going to be a couple of weeks training behind the rest of the lads, having already been out for a while as well." |
