Telford friendly off
mansfieldtown.net, 18 July 2002

Saturday's friendly with Telford United has been cancelled following today's match with Rotherham.

The Stags travelled north this morning to take on Rotherham in a practice match which has turned out to be a disaster for the Stags.

Firstly Watkiss's men were defeated 4-0, but more worryingly, injuries were sustained to several players, dimminshing the already small squad.

Watkiss is well aware of the fact that he needs to get players in before the new season kicks off on August 10th, but won't be rushed to make signings in desperation.

The importance of having a big squad has today been realised as following the game, Barry Statham club physio, was busy dealing with a number of new injury worries.

The result of these injuries means that Watkiss has insufficient numbers to turn out a squad at Telford on Saturday, he said "we just haven't got enough players to take part in the fixture".

Details of the injuries will be available when the players return to Field Mill tomorrow and hopefully none of them are too serious so that the Stags can play their friendlies in a busy schedule next week.
