Russell In Contract Dispute

Story by Stuart Gillespie, 5 December 2005

Former Saint Allan Russell is currently in the middle of a contract dispute with Macclesfield Town. The striker only made fourteen appearances for his new club before being sent on loan to fellow strugglers Mansfield Town.

Russell left Love Street in the summer after turning down a one year contract. After a failed trial with Leyton Orient, he signed a one year deal with Macclesfield, on for more money than he'd have got at Saints.

Part of his contract meant that after a certain number of appearances, he'd get a bonus. having passed that number, Macclesfield now want him to give up the bonus! Russell was transfer listed after refusing to stand down, along with three other players.

While I find what is happening to Russell after his actions over the summer hilarious, you have to ask what sort of club gives a guy a contract that means he gets a bonus after just fourteen appearances. In those fourteen games he's scored the grand total of two goals, so clearly he hasn't been as big a loss as his mate told the Saints fans he would be.

Russell is on loan at Mansfield until the end of the year and has no idea what will happen after that. Bet you wished you'd stayed at Love Street Allan!
