PILKINGTON OUT FOR SEASON
Evening Post, 13 April 2005
Stags keeper Kevin Pilkington is out for the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder in training.

The former Manchester United stopper has damaged ligaments.

Reserve team keeper Jason White, 21, will play in the Stags' remaining four League Two games.

He will make his full league debut against Darlington at Field Mill on Saturday.

White has just one start to his name so far - in the 4-0 LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Macclesfield in November.

"The shoulder got put back in but Kevin damaged ligaments," confirmed Stags manager Carlton Palmer.

"I was always going to give Whitey a game before the end of the season and now he's got his chance."

Palmer says he wants to tie up deals to keep both keepers at Field Mill beyond the end of this season.

He is hopeful that Adam Rundle will sign a new contract this week - and confirmed that money is the key issue.

"It's always about money. If we had done the deal when he first came in it wouldn't have been a problem.

"We needed to see him play and he's done well, but now other clubs are interested in him.

"I will be disappointed if we lose him now - but I'm more than hopeful that he will sign."

Looking ahead, the Stags will play West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday in pre-season friendlies.

Stags will host the Rams at Field Mill on July 16 and Sheffield Wednesday on July 27.

Palmer is waiting for confirmation on a date for the game against West Bromwich Albion, which will also be at Field Mill.

Palmer is talking to Bradford City about a friendly, but a date has not yet been confirmed.

Mansfield will also take on Kingstonian in pre-season and could play Rotherham United and another non-league side, possibly Alfreton or Hucknall.

Keith Curle has confirmed he has applied for the manager's job at Chester City.

And the former Stags boss revealed that he also applied for the Rotherham job.
