LATEST ON DEAN HANKEY
6th August 2004 15:12

Englishman to IFK Mora

18-year old Dean Hankey will be a new forward for fifth division side IFK Mora – and he will participate in our training tonight.

The IFK Mora coach Christer Lind is the initiator to a very exciting signing from English League Two side Mansfield to the Ovansiljan club. (Note: Ovansiljan = Upper shores of Lake Siljan, where Mora is situated).
- The whole story dates back to the mid-eighties when I became a personal friend of John Gannon who played for us between 1984 and 1985. I got in touch with him some weeks ago when it became clear that we were to lose two forwards during august, Christer Lind told the http://www.falukuriren.se website and continued:
- John Gannon is currently assistant coach at Mansfield and after som discussions we decided on a co-operation which means that we will have Dean Hankey on loan for the rest of our season.
For next season two loans might be completed and after the end of our season, two or three players from IFK Mora may travel to Mansfield and train with them for two weeks.
The two players that are leaving IFK Mora in the near futureare the forwards Emil Engman and Jesper Lindblom, Emil due to studying abroad and Jesper due to work in Stockholm.
And these two things brought about the initiative taken by Christer to get in touch with his old team-mate John Gannon.
When John played for IFK Mora he was only seventeen but looks back on that time as an exciting and learning one.
And today John is assistant coach at Mansfield, a club who lost a penalty shoot-out in the Division 3 Playoffs final for promotion.
- recommended Dean Hankey to us, and I even watched him play when I was in England last week, Christer mentions, and adds:
- I became very impressed by Dean, both an and off the field, especially as he wanted to come over and play for us. He might very well be an asset for us in our promotion bid.
Dean Hankey has been a first team sub for Mansfield on several occasions and also play for their reserves and youth team.
And tomorrow, IFK Mora starts their autumn season with a tough Ovansiljan local derby against Färnäs at Prästholmen. (IFK Mora's home ground).

Translated by Svante Bernhard from an article written by Peter Svensson for http://www.falukuriren.se/sport on August 4.

For the record, IFK Mora beat Färnäs 3-1 at home yesterday. More details when available.
