mansfieldtown.net reports that Keith Curle today confirmed that he has been chasing pacy Northampton striker Derek Asamoah.

"I have been in talks with Northampton, Derek and his agent for a couple of weeks of now. But because the player is under 24 years old we, like many clubs do not want to get involved in a tribunal situation. This is what would happen if we were to sign the player as he has been offered new terms from Northampton without coming to an agreement with Northampton" He explained.

"The deal is not yet dead in the water though, the two chairmen are in talks trying to arrange a mutual satisfying deal. We are still hopeful of getting Derek on board and you can rest assured that we do our best to get him to this football club" he added.

The young striker would be a suitable replacement for Junior Mendes who has recently signed a deal that will see him in the blue and white stripes of Huddersfield Town and a good strike partner for Colin Larkin who is said to be looking 'Awesome' in training.
