Stags Youth 1 Scunthorpe Youth 4
Report by John Street

Stags Youth Team completed their fixtures for the season at Field Mill on Saturday morning and ended with a defeat while once again fielding some of next years intake.

Stags conceded when a series of mis-kicks and sliced clearances opened up chances for the Irons, and Stags got back into the game when a Coates clearance when over the heads of everyone to allow Zaccarius a easy lob over the keeper to set the match up at the break with a 1 - 1 score.

The second half developed similar to the Chesterfield match the previous week when the older and stronger opposition overpowered the Stags in the second half.

This resulted in Scunthorpe running in 3 second half goals to come out comfortable winners on the day.

SCUNTHORPE JUNIORS END ON A HIGH
http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk, 03 May 2004

Scunthorpe United Juniors ended their season on a high note with an excellent 4-1 win at Mansfield Town.

Jason Ford opened the scoring for the Iron after 15 minutes with the first of his two goals in the game when he converted a Russell Penn cross. But the sides went in at the break all square after Mansfield equalised just before half-time.

Penn restored United's lead 10 minute into the second period with the goal of the game.

The winger picked up the ball inside his own half before evading several chances and slotting the ball cooly past the Stags' 'keeper.

Ford made it 3-1 five minutes later when he forced the ball home after his first shot had been blocked by the 'keeper.

Craig Mitchell then made sure of the win when he made it 4-1 15 minutes from time.

However, Scunthorpe's mood was tempered with full back Gary Butcher suffering a dislocated knee.

Goalkeeper Adam Capp and midfielder Jonathan Hunt have been offered professional contracts with the club.
