VITAL WIN FOR STAGS
Mansfield Town 2-1 Torquay United
Stags Scorers: Larkin 3, Mendes 10
Torquay Scorer: Gritton 17
Mansfield Town hit the front after five minutes at home to Torquay United as Neil MacKenzie's ball found Colin Larkin, who was on hand to turn the ball home past Kevin Dearden.
Junior Mendes quickly doubled the lead by driving the ball home from the edge of the area, but Martin Gritton made it 2-1 after just 17 minutes by netting from close range.
Liam Rosenior hit a post for the Gulls in the second half, but the Stags held on to move up to sixth in the table.
Alex John-Baptiste was Mansfield's hero as his last-gasp goalline clearance earned the Stags a 2-1 win over Torquay and three vital points in their promotion push.
Liam Rosenior beat keeper Kevin Pilkington only to see John-Baptiste appear out of nowhere to block his injury time effort.
Mansfield took the lead in the fourth minute when an early Wayne Cordon cross was only half cleared and Neil MacKenzie's wayward volley was turned in by Colin Larkin.
Craig Taylor was at fault six minutes later when he let Bobby Hassell's long ball over the top bounce over his head and Junior Mendes ran through to lob Kevin Dearden from 16 yards.
MacKenzie and Liam Lawrence both came close before the Gulls pulled one back when David Graham found himself unmarked in the area. His shot was blocked but the rebound was poked home by Martin Gritton.
