RESERVES DRAW WITH WALSALL
7th January 2004 12:14

Walsall Reserves 2 Stags Reserves 2
Report by John Street

Stags Reserves came away from Walsall with a creditable draw, in what was for many of the Stags first team squad and senior Youth Team Players their first run out of the year.

Stags started in a low gear and Walsall went ahead early on when Jason White's momentum saw him carry the ball out of the area.

Stefan Oakes, the ex Leeds United and Leicester midfielder, rifled home the free-kick.

Stags in the latter part of the first half took control and equalised when Dave Artell headed in from a Lloyd corner.

The second half developed into more of a physical battle and Walsall bullied themselves into a 2 - 1 lead before the Stags took control once again, with threats on goal from Beardsley and Buxton from Curle and Lloyd free-kicks sparking chances.
Stags eventually got their deserved equaliser when substitute striker Hankey fired in when the ball fell nicely for him in the penalty area.

Stags looked quite solid at the back with Buxton and Artell marshalling events, and once the cobwebs had blown off the team they turned in a fair performance.
