Steve Hartshorn at Ninian Park
Stags slumped to their second
defeat of the week as they failed even to register a single shot on target at
Ninian Park on Saturday. Big
spending Cardiff had not won for 4 games, but it mattered not for the Stags,
starting with Chris Greenarce as lone forward, did everything possible to give
City an easy ride towards the three points. City
dominated the game from start to finish, the only surprise it taking so long
before Earnshaw scored the Bluebirds first on 52 minutes. Mimms, who had for
so long in the game been the main reason why the teams were level, suffered a
rare moment of bad judgement and Earnshaw brilliantly put City ahead.
Any hope the Stags fans, 98 by
accounts, had of a come-back were dashed as manager Billy Dearden continued to
stick to his starting formation. City
were creating chance after chance, whilst the white shirted Stags failed to
put anymore than 4 passes together. The only highlight of the second half came
when a Bobby Hassell header sailed past the post, by some distance... It was
really that bad. The
Embarrassment continued and you were left wondering if the Stags players had
any self belief that they could get at the Bluebirds, who despite all the
hype, still looked nothing special.
The killing goal came on 85
minutes when AGAIN poor marking by the Stags back line gave Brayson the space
to fire City deservedly towards the three points. If
there were any plus points for the Stags, then I'm damned if I can thing of
any. They were poor to say the least and in truth deserved a heavier defeat
than what they actually got. Not
good news from the Valley's, here's hoping that the trip to Devon will bare
more fruit. If not, then we could be in for a seriously worrying time.
